Target distance

At a rifle range where do you measure from to set your targets? Is it the firing line, which if your setting at the bench would be about 3 foot in front you. Or do you measure from where your sitting?

It depends on what you are trying to do, e.g. when zeroing I measure from the barrel. I usually stand while shooting and measure from my lead foot, if shooting from a bench I would measure from the front of the table.

It isn’t enough to matter.

At our little private range, as a matter of convenience I just use a laser range finder to determine about where to roll the shooting bench to. A few feet one way or the other isn’t going to matter. You’re not likely to shoot a known distance out in the field anyway.

Thanks for the answers.
