Tapco Mags ?

What do we think about Tapco mags. I haven’t read anything one way or another about them in the short time I’ve been hanging out here. Maybe the silence is saying something ?

PMags, Tangodown mags, and Lancer are your best bets for your money.

Tapco is about the same quality as UTG; in other words; shi**y.

I’m running NHMTG right now and haven’t had any trouble. I see Blue Press has ProMag for the same price as the NHMTG. May just have to get a couple.

I thought the Tapco name would be self explanatory. But…with known mags like Pmag, etc. why bother?

Haven’t dealt with anything from Tapco. Let alone mags. So,how would I know?

The newest tapco magazines are great. I think some of tapcos reputation comes from some of their SKS stuff. However they cost about as much as a Pmag so why not just buy a pmag?

Some of tapco’s new stuff, like their buffer tube and magazines are very promising.

I couldn’t disagree more with this statement. I have used a few G2 trigger packs for my saiga conv. and had no problems with any.

The G2 trigger is top notch, have one on all of my AK’s.

If you’re talking about aluminum mags…

I’ve been tracking USGI-type aluminum mag’s CAGE Code Numbers. I saw Cabelas had some Tapco AR 30-round aluminum mags the other day. I’ve never seen a company put their Cage# on the floorplate BUT Tapco did (3E207). Looking further, I found that they had a different Cage # on the mag body. The Cage # was 04TQ4 which is the same number for DSG Arms and D&H. Both of those mags are gtg, so I’d have to say the Tapco mags are too…if you’re talking aluminum mags.

I’m a Pmag fan but I’m issued Tapco mags for training. Believe it or not, they run better than expected. Plus the floorplates don’t get snagged when stacked in a double mag pouch. I like em but they’re still not Pmags!

what kind of issues have you had with their AR mags? I trust you actually tried them and gave it a decent field test before spouting off about them right?

The AK mag I tried of theirs was suprisingly well made, but under-sprung. a new mag spring made it run 100% so far. Factory rep claimed that they were not all like that and offered to send a new one, which never showed up.

The SKS mags have a decent reputation, but my tests have been far too minimal to comment on them. they do seem well made and sufficiently sprung with an anti tilt follower.

I’d buy an AR mag just to test it out, but as for buying a bunch, I fall in the same category as the rest … why bother when pmags just plain work.

With the price of Pmags and the known track record…why go with anything else?

Tapco anything isn’t well regarded here. There are way too many quality mags both USGI type (NHMTG, DSA, DSG, Bravo Company, Pmags and Lancers) to go with any Tapco product. Hell I just got a flyer from botach the other day for lancer mags for 10 bucks each. I have pretty much all of them. If you go with aluminum mags, get the Magpul followers.

I just bought a bunch of new-in-the-wrapper Center Industries GI mags for $6 each. I have been using these for for a few years without any issues.

Why the hell would I spend more on TAPCO mags?
