I have a rifle with a TA31 ACOG and KAC micro flip up sights. I’m considering adding a supplemental red dot optic, either offset or piggybacked on the ACOG.
What is your preference of optic and mounting style for this role?
The Aimpoint H1 and Trijicon RMR are both on the top of my list.

I recommend you try both setups on someone else’s rifle first. I’m not a fan of the top mount because it’s even higher over the bore than the primary optic. You can’t use a cheekweld, making it unstable and not repeatable.
I don’t like it offset because it’s a major pain in the ass shooting around support side cover.
My solution was a 1-6 optic that is a true 1x with a dot.
Both the H1 and RMR are good options.
Try the RMR on an angle mount and see if you like it.
