Talk to me about M14 scope mounts...

I like the Smith and Sadlak mounts but understand there is some luck with installation. Smith will do it for you but there is a wait, Sadlak OTHO will send you the tools to measure your gun then, will customize the mount to your specs.

What of the ARMS mounts?

My major worry is the brass jamming up due to mount placement. I know that Sadlak builds in a certain degree of angle to help lower the chances of this occurring.

What are the general opinions on this issue?

I’m looking at either a Scout or a fullsize Springfield M14.

What other mounts will work?

I used an ARMS on a NM M1A for years and never had an issue with either zero or stoppages.

Depending on your application you may want to take a look at the UltiMak mount.

This is, naturally, for a scout type or 1x optic.

I have not personally used one on an M14 type, but have heard good things as long as it is within the users desired employment method.

I like the Smith mounts. Have them on a Scout and a EBR. Installed by me with no problems.

I used the Springfield armory gen 2 mount but I think the real key is to have a knowledgeable armorer do the instalation. Don’t fart around with these mounts. They need to be fine tuned to the rifle for best results. The other key is to get the best cheek rest possible.

Try to find an older ARMS mount with the split top, I have had mine for 20+ years, no probs. I use it with a # 19 throw lever mount and ARMS low rings, its a little heavy, but it works good.

Curious, what luck is required for installation of a Smith mount?

I am in the process of installing an ARMS #18 on my Scout and the bolt snapped off in the receiver. I was fortunate and was able to get it out but the look on my face when I felt the torque wrench let go was " " that’s for sure.
