Talk me in or out of a Trijicon TARS

I’ve got an approved SWFA price match for 1700 on a new TARS102. This is the non mil model with moa adjustment, but seems to me this price is unbeatable at half off. What am I missing, is there something else anyone can recommend in this price range? I can get a Leupold Mk6 3-18 for under 1900. I am not up on the scope game, I would prefer mil/mil, but it’s not a deal breaker. Mostly concerned with quality, durability, and re-sale value.

Thanks,
T15

didnt realize how much the tars weighed, i think im going to hunt down an illuminated mk6. still open to suggestions. kmr 16" bfh and 18" .308, just looking for easy 200 yards on the range and hunting out to 3-400. light weight, minimum 14x power. no caliber specific BDC, not sure which rifle it will spend the most time on.

any sweet deals or websites i should look at?

Wow 47 ounces?! That’s literally double the Leupy’s 23.6. I haven’t seen the tars but I have shot the Leupold beyond 1,000 yards with the H57 and loved it.

I don’t know why you would want a duplex reticle on a scope like that. It is extraordinarily heavy, and the turrets are rather awkward. You have to pull them up quite a bit before you can adjust them. That style of turret was much better implemented on my S&B Short Dot.

Wouldn’t consider the TARS. They (Trijicon) are out of touch with reality.

Many better options out there, and for less money.

OK, pulling out of the TARS lol! Thanks guys.

Wise choice. If you want, I’d be happy to speak via PM about some great options out there that will meet your needs, within Budget Guidelines.

what type of rifle are you putting this on?

If this is going on any type of AR platform, I would buy this: http://nightforceoptics.com/atacr/4-16x42-f1

I frankly feel the new Nightforce ATACR scopes blow those other options out of the water, even if you have to spend an extra $500-1000. Plus, take into consideration that the standard Mark 6 lacks an illuminated reticule. The TARS was meant as a Premier Optics (now Tangent Theta) competitor to their 3.5-15x50 scope. I have looked through but not shot with one; I was not that impressed considering the original MSRP was > $3500

Thank you! I was stuck on the NXS series, I didn’t realize that the F1 was for FFP. Seems like the 4-16 you linked is one of the new-er products from NF. I will begin the deal hunting, so far I am looking at illuminated Mk 6 and the NF 4-16 F1.

Probably the most time on a 16" light weight AR and a 7.62 AK w/ side mount.

I never heard back from you… but it sounds like you got’er figured out. Those are two solid scopes.

Oops, sorry HD, I haven’t bought anything yet and definitely appreciate you taking the time to help me. I meant to check my inbox and got distracted coin roll hunting :jester:

I’ve replied to your PM, thanks!

No worries!

PM replied to.

A 16" AR-15 carbine and an AK? In that case, you really just need a NXS 2.5-10x32 compact. I have one with a mil dot reitcule and mil turrets for $1600 on top of my SPR build. Heck, a Kahles 1-6x or vortex Razor HD II 1-6x would get the job done on man targets for multigun matches out to 500-600 yards. Got to ask yourself what you’re using it for.
