I want to know if anyone has any recommendations of DVD/Videos that will help me improve my self defense shooting? I know attending classes and learning from a professional instructor is the best way to learn, but I dont have the money or time to attend a professional class at this time.
I am especially interested in learning how to use my front sight to shoot faster, but I want to learn over skills also. ![]()
I picked up the Thunder Ranch Urban Rifle DVDā¦
Itās a two disc set, one lecture, and one range.
Itās not a full blown course, and but it covers the basics.
I like Clint Smithās demeanor, and I learned some stuff too. Definately worth the $49.99 priceā¦
Valhalla Training videos are excellent. I will send some to my brothers for Christmas.

Josey-
Strictly out of curiousity, what other training videos are you comparing the Valhalla videos to? And what about them specifically do you find to be so outstanding?
Thanks
The info I listed was not a comparison to other videos. The videos Nationwide has listed are excellent as well. I say excellent, because a beginner can learn much from these videos. Granted, there is much to learn beyond what is presented in the videos. But the material listed could give a new shoot 6 months worth of material to practice, test, and perfect. Sometimes a person can bite off too much at once. I think all the videos listed are a good start.
I like the drills that Valhalla proposed. They are practical and educational. I also think that their approach is a good message for new shooters who can mistake target accuracy for combat skill.
Another Clint Smith vote. I think he is one of the best if not the best instructor out there at this time. He has many different videos.
Howās this???

I may end up ordering it myself.
Iām a former LEO, so Iāve had academy and refesher training, as well as some CCW class stuff. I like his rifle DVD so expect the handgun one to be equally usefull in my personal training. ![]()
Iām curious if anyone has seen any of the Ken Hackathorn vids, and what your impressions of them were?
I like the stuff Iāve seen from Clint so far, moreso the āclassroomā parts, simply because of his no BS style.
If you havenāt seen āThe Art of the Gunā by Scott Reitz you should.
Does a very good job of covering the fundamentals of handgun shooting.
I have the Clint Smith āUrban Rifleā DVD. Well worth the $49.99 to get started on the basics. But you canāt replace a trained observer to point out mistakes you canāt see.
Tack
Iāve purchased the set of āInside The Crucibleā dvds offered by Paladin Press. A series of dvds from Kelly McCaan aka Jim Grover. For a beginner, theyāre great because McCaan explains in a classroom environment why he believes you should consider his instruction. His explanations make sense. In this series, he uses beginners and this is beneficial from a learning perspective. Bear in mind, this series is for defensive use of a handgun in a lethal force confrontation. Itās not a competition, speed shooting instructional video.
Another video that I found informative was Bill Wilson and Ken Hackethornsā āRoom Clearingā video. I think itās very helpful from a homeowners perspective because they demonstrate how to properly and safely (if itās at all possible and if you absolutely have to) clear a room. They also demonstrate how the most popular handgun calibers fair against drywall, wood and concrete. Great info!
Thanks for the DVD it is exactly what I am looking for jump start my training.
I have always wondered if those āInside the Crucibleā videos were any good. I will have to pick up some of the videos. Guess knowing how to clear a room would be a handy skill to have in the future.
