For a while now, I’ve been looking at getting a set of rifle plates and a simple carrier to use for training and to have on hand should the need arise (shtf or whatever). I’d love to get a set of Velocity System 10x12 level IV ICW plates, but I haven’t seen them in stock anywhere in forever.
Recently, though, I discovered that one of my local shops is carrying plates by a company called Tacprogear. They are ceramic and claim to be level IV SA. Thing is I can’t find much/any info about them. They are less expensive then VelSyst and they are available, but I’d hate to invest $400 in junk and I don’t have an extra $200 at the moment to buy one to shoot at.
If you don’t mind me asking, why would you prefer ICW plates, but would also go with SA? What’s your planned set-up?
Tyr tactical has been selling sets of ESAPI-style lvl 4 SA ceramic plates (made by Paraclete if i remember correctly) for under $300. Something to consider.
Sorry I left this hanging for so long…Been crazy busy lately.
Anyway, like I said, I’m looking to get a simple rifle-rated armor setup for advanced training and to have on hand for potential “SHTF” scenarios. I wouldn’t necessarily prefer ICW…It’s just that that particular VS IV-ICW plate was what I was familiar with as being good quality at a reasonable price.
Since I started this thread, a fellow member here offered me a really good deal on a set of VS IV-SA shooter-cut plates, so I’m going that route. At the end of the day, it’s just a little more than the Tacprogear stuff, but something I feel much more comfortable standing behind.
