Since this is a fairly new ACOG, who has one and what are you thoughts regarding the Green Chevron? How do you compare this optic to the TA31F with the red chevron.
The human eye is most sensitive to light wavelengths in the 532 nanometer range, which is a green tone, so your average human is going to pick up the reticle faster with green than red, all other things being equal. Also, because of the way the human eye operates, that color is more likely to be seen when viewed against a background. Red or green, the reticle is the exact same brightness under the same conditions, green is merely the color your eye is most transparent to.
That said, I know plenty of folks that still prefer red or amber reticles and can back it up with good shooting. Best description I ever heard as to why this is, in spite of the science, was told to me by a shooter that confirmed that his eye picked up the reticle faster, but it appeared so much “brighter” to him that he kept focusing too much on the reticle itself instead of the target, so he ended up “chasing the bull.”
That’s a minority position. Most of our testings have shown that folks get on target and trigger faster using green. Only you can decide what you prefer, but the science of it is sound, and I know that I preferred green even before I knew the whys and wherefores. I’ll be getting one, though preferably a TA31H-G (4x w/horseshoe reticle instead of the chevron) when the opportunity presents itself.
I found this pic on another forum.
