I will soon be the owner of a new 2moa T1, and was wondering what benifit I would get by switching out the supplied factory mount for something like a LaRue or ADM? I want lower 1/3rd, and return to zero when taken off, so is the supplied mount up to par? Does it have a quality QD system? Please let me know something.
Thanks,
Brandon
Factory mount isn’t high enough for lower 1/3 on a AR. People use te factory mount for Ak, shotgun, or pistols. Adm, Larue are GTG for quick detach. Daniel Defense & KAC are both options for Traditional screws. A lot of people aren’t worrying about being able to QD, given the durability of the T1.
I need QD to be able to swap out the T1 with my 1-4X optic. I was under the impression that they had a lower 1/3 mount with QD?
I haven’t used the stock mount nor have I used any Larue but I have and do use ADM mounts and I really like em.
I just bought an Aimpoint T-1 that came with a LRP quick detach base that does provide the lower 1/3 co-witness. Have not found much info about it, but it is my understanding it is a factory mount (came pre-assembled). Anyone have experience with the LRP mount?
Thats the one!
I started with a DD lower 1/3 witness mount but switched to a LaRue 660 (1/3 also) when I assembled another upper. Just wanted to be able to swap back and forth, the LaRue locks up solid and is EZ on off. For the weight comparison junkies among us, the DD is 1.45oz, the 660 is 2.75oz. The difference is well worth it IMHO.
I have a T-1 with the newer lower 1/3 QD mount. I do NOT like it. It doesn’t hold tight to the rail and it doesn’t adjust down enough to lock onto the rail without making it next to impossible to release the lever. The ONLY positive about the mount is that it is super lightweight. my recommendation is to save the extra money and get an ADM or LaRue. They can be found on the EE, that’s where I got mine.
Ok, sounds like I gotta get a mount. Thanks guys.

Just for my own clarity sake(I also have a t-1 w/ LRP mount en route, my dealer had a screaming deal on the pair) Is is the LRP mount that you were having issue with?
I have had my LRP for about two weeks, or one trip to the range, or 180 rounds too be MOST specific. Seems to lock-up tight and is not overly difficult to remove. So far, so good.
Yes the LRP mount. When I locked the mount down on my rail, it would slide fore and aft in the slot. The more I tightened it, the less it would move but as tight as it would go, it still moves a little bit. This is unsatisfactory because the mount/sight will move under recoil.
Wow…Thank you CoryCop25. I had not forced the mount fore and aft, and you are correct it does move. I guess I need to start saving for a LaRue.
Thanks for the heads up. I’ll definitely pay close attention to the mount.
We’ll have to see if I get lucky or have to start budgeting for a more solid alternative.
I have a larue cowitness and lower 1/3 as well as an adm lower 1/3. I prefer the larue locking system, there isn’t two small springs to get lost or bent. However, the adm system will probably never get loose and is adjustable without tools. Both lock up tight and return to zero after removal.
I think my favorite is the larue cowitness because of weight, looks, and lever, but all are good to go.
The LaRue and ADM are both decent.
I have had issues with ADM mounts loosening.
Tighten them more than you think you need to, and check them frequently for the first few hundred rounds.
I find that the LaRue seats the best if you cycle the latch a few times, gradually increasing tightness until it takes decent effort to unlatch the lock.
Is the only quarrel with the DD lower 1/3 mount that it’s not QD?
I believe it to be just as you stated it’s not QD. The DD is definitely the mount of choice if easy removal and re-zero isn’t a requirement. I like to switch my RD and 1-4 between my rifles.
How well do these QD mounts really hold zero?
If you’re shooting a 1-4x optic and switch it for a red dot, then sure at close range your red dot will be good enough if it was previously zeroed, BUT putting the 1-4x back on and taking a precision shot at 200 yards? How zeroed is that 1-4x going to be?
I ask because I don’t know, I’m not just trying to stir crap up.
I frequently switch back and forth from my 1-4 and M4S (both in Bobro mounts) and there is no discernible shift.
I have seen tests with LaRue mounts with a precision rig with the optic removed and remounted between each shot for 20 shots (if I recall correctly), and the group looked like a normal 20 round string from a precision rifle.
Good mounts make it a non-issue if properly mounted.
Still, it’s a good practice to confirm zero any time an optic is remounted.
