Ok so to start off, I have many T-1 micros and I love them. My question is for those who are “older” 60+ have any experience with the ease of using a smaller T-1 optic. Reason Im asking is Im building a AR rifle for my father-in-law. He is 67. Vietnam Vet. Avid shooter, etc. He has only bolt guns with magnified optics. He is very into precision shooting and has many many rifles with magnified optics. So I dont want a variable power scope. This will be for 100 yards and closer rifle. He doesn’t know Im building this gun for him, so I am not asking him for input. Just going to hand it over and say… here is your rifle. I wanted the T1 because its light and compact. Do older folks (hopefully some on here) have pros and cons they have noticed with the T-1 over other optics. Comp3, Comp m4s or alike. He uses NV so that is a must. I don’t want this thread to turn into a battle between what optic is better for combat. Only interested in replys for input on older folks and there experience with them. If this is already covered could someone point me into the right direction. Thank you.
I would either build without a scope or with a low powered variable with an illuminated ret. Eye/Dot problems have nothing to do with age. The Aimpoint 2moa dot looks like a large cluster of grapes to me. I have gone to a Leupold 1x4 with the SPR reticle on my do everything rifle. GH
Thanks for the reply. Maybe age has nothing to do with ease of using a red dot as much as say astigmatism. Is that your case GH41? He has fairly good eyes… But does use reading glasses only. So maybe Ill just run with it and go with the T1 and have him try it first hand. Hes out of state so I cant just have him shoot one of mine. Or I would have done that already.
If all he wears are readers go with the micro. Tell him to focus on the target not the dot. I have astigmatism bad, all I use are micros.
That’s all I needed. THANK YOU!!!
I’m in the process of waiting for my insurance to approve a new prescription vs getting an Aimpoint 3x magnifier.
So in the meantime, I’m doing a lot of dry fire, and trying to look past the RDS and focus on the target, and I can truthfully say, it gets better.
I’m 43-44’ish with near-sight vision
Bonus points for you for doing this, thumbsup
I’m not that old, but I can see it from here. I have a T-1, use reading glasses, and have no age-related issues with it or any other RDS I’ve used. I would suggest the 2MOA version. Note that there are individual idiosyncratic issues that might come up…if he has astigmatism, that might impair the usefulness of any RDS. If he wears glasses, however, that can be corrected. Astigmatism wouldn’t have anything to do with being 67.
