Sweden and Finland to jointly adopt new service rifle

It’ll be interesting to see what our Nordic friends come up with:

“In September (2021), a procurement will start that affects many people in the Swedish Armed Forces. It will then be determined which firearm will replace the AK5. The new firearm will be purchased together with Finland – which means that the countries will use the same automatic carbine in the future.”

Jesus, please send those AK5 parts kits to us so DSA can make AK5 receivers.

F’ing ATF barrel ban. Can you imagine if these came in around 1999 about the same time Germany flooded us with all of their G3s and accessories.

Good lord I need a Green FNC with a round ball charging handle. AK5 is my current unobtanium wish gun.

Back OT, I wouldn’t be surprised if they ended up with some M4’ish or 416 platform.

I agree they will likely go with the 416 platform. That is what Norway and Denmark did. I did manage to mostly transform my FNC para into an AK5 lookalike back about 14 years ago. I managed to find the correct green furniture, charging handle and trigger guard and the rifle looked pretty close.

I bet it will be an LMT. If not a 416 then definitely an LMT.

I’d like to see LMT get it, mainly because they are a small business in the US.

If Sweden and/or Finland wanted to manufacture one of LMT’s designs under license, wonder if LMT would be agreeable to that?

I would love for LMT to get the contract,as they are a local business.
But I’m going to guess the 416 gets the nod…<just wild speculation on my behalf.

No more AK5s and RK62/95s, huh?

I’m thinking what everyone else is: 416. With Norway, France, and now Germany officially adopting the 416, plus with the Marines using the M27, the 416 is quickly becoming the 21st Century’s FAL.

So Sig winning everything is just a US phenomena?

Yeah…kinda. Maybe one day WE will be able to get a 416.

May be. If during this time nothing more modern and convenient to use will be developed. Now, after all, all industries are developing, although sometimes it seems that the arms sector has slightly slowed down in the direction of technological progress, the development of electronics and space technologies.

Well, since the M27 is now the Marines’ service rifle, and this NGSW is likely going to go the way of the OICW, the XM8, and the Land Warrior, I’d imagine the Army is NOT going to sit back and let the Marines be the one with the new, cool rifle. My guess is that they’ll adopt a 416 variant service wide at some point, which would be great because that will probably mean that 416 will have to give up some patents. Just speculation.

I meant “we” the citizens of the US, and I mean something truer to the 416 than the MR556. I think our military is doing fine with the current M4 platform. Special dudes already have 416s and “gotta be different” branches already have their “other than M4” rifle. Marines ran the M16A4 for a long damn time so they probably earned their M27.

I like my MR556. Quite a bit. I don’t know why people want the 2005 416 when the current year ones are so much better. I would love it if they would release the more current version but the one available is the M27 with no select fire.

The G95 would be dope

Especially a really well configured MR762.

I love mine.

I know that’s what you meant by “we”:). That’s what I meant as well; that’s why I was talking about HK having to give up patents if the Army were to adopt a 416 variant; we’d likely see multiple quality companies like BCM, DD, etc. making 416 rifles and parts, and thus more affordable options than HK on the civilian market.

I don’t know which gen 416 I shot but I shot a few, then I got a MR556 and it wasn’t even close to the same. It’s like ordering a Colt 6945 but getting one with a HBar barrel.

At least the USC was able to be converted to an acceptable UMP so I shouldn’t complain.

That is a good idea.

Hey, I just noticed they went to a Pmag thing. WTF? All that talk about the ultimate maritime magazine, where did it go? That was 10% of the appeal of the rifle.

For the first time in, well, forever, the Marines aren’t getting sloppy seconds from the army. It only took 200+ years.

What specifically does the M27 do better than a M4?
