So for the tech experts out there… How difficult is it to swap out a barrel? Currently I have a S&W MP15T with the 1/9 barrel with a carbine gas system. I am considering swapping the barrel for one of the BCM BFH 16" middy barrels. I think that this would be a step up from the stock barrel on the Smith.
So, as a reasonably capable individual, how difficult would the swap be? I am by no means a gunsmith, (just a lowly dog handler here) but if its not too bad i would give it a shot. So weigh in on this for me. If its simpler to send it to someone for some work i wouldnt mind that either, and would be willing to pay for quality work.

Get a barrel nut wrench, upper receiver block and a torque wrench. I consider Brownells taper pin removal block a must-have myself.
If you can turn a wrench and read the torque, you can swap a barrel.
It is very easy to change out a barrel, but it will cost you some $$$ for all of the tools that you need to do it. If you feel that you will change out more barrels in the future or will build some ARs yourself, I say go for it.
But, if you don’t see yourself using the tools more than once, I would send the barrel and upper to somebody to do it for you. Maybe Adcofirearms…

Take into account the added cost of shipping both ways and the fact that a torque wrench can be rented for free from Autozone before you make your decision. I think a receiver block off gunbroker + a PRI barrel wrench was about $50 total
I want to give it a try, but I also dont want to completely destroy my rifle. I know for a fact that ADCO will not touch my rifle after reading through the thread about their service on LF.net. I would sooner try and work something out with Grant from G&R or one of the more knowledgeable builders on this site.
Why are you going to switch? The S&W M&Ps I have seen are excellent rifles. If you need a 1:7 twist to shoot frangible, then do it. Otherwise, just save the money and spend it on ammo and training. After the stock barrel is shot out, then get a BFH from BCM. Just my 2cw.
