Ok, I got my Stag Model 1 gas key and castle nut restaked. Now I’ve got my hands on an H buffer, can I still use my current buffer spring or do I need to replace that too? When I shoot my carbine I can hear a “sprong” sound. Will changing the whole buffer and spring eliminate this or is it normal? Thanks in advance.![]()
The noise is normal. An H buffer is a good starting point. Run it for while and take note of your ejection pattern.
im pretty sure sproing only occures in “commercial” receiver extensions. i haven’t heard sproing in ANY of my guns since an old, old gunshow parts build i had a million years ago.
It should occur in every rifle extension with a rifle buffer and spring. I have not noticed it in any of my carbines.
My rifles and carbines have the “sproing”. And it happens in my milspec RE’s, too. I only hear it when I wear muffs, though. If I have my plugs, I don’t hear it at all.
Maybe thats it. I’ve been using my muffs. I’ll try it with plugs:D But do I need to replace the spring also, or will the stock one work with the H buffer?
Stock one will work fine as long as it’s length is still within spec.
Thank you, I guess that’s all I need to do right now. Don’t really have a problem with the BCG right now. I’ll shoot it 'til its starting to fail, then upgrade.
I installed a H buffer in my LMT. I’m a lefty and now the empties are hitting me in the face. I switched back to the carbine buffer that came with it.
That sucks. I am also a lefty. I installed an H buffer in my Stag Model 1, and haven’t had any troubles. Why would the buffer cause this to happen? Slower ejection not throwing the empties far enough?
Thats what I was thinking.
some guys know off the top of their head the direction of brass travel according to timing, i don’t. but your casings were most likely not striking the brass deflector hard enough to bounce them off away from you. sucks to be a southpaw.
this topic has been covered enough around here, but i might as well add- i’ve known several wrong-hand people who’ve converted to shooting right-hand… mostly because of eye dominance, but i’ve known a couple who’ve done it just for functional reasons. i always encourage southpaws to at least try it. then you could run your H.
Happened in every M16 I ever fired; A1’s and A2’s.
I actually always thought it was kind of interesting that you could hear, and even feel, it in a high power rifle.
