I’m interested in getting a BCM 20’’ upper reciever to swap out with my SPR, for max flexibility. Interested in getting the upper as plain as possible, no rail (just A2 handguards) and a carrying handle.
I’m intend it to swap it out with the lower I’ve been using with my Mk 12, a RRA lower reciever, with a SSA trigger, heavy buffer, and a fixed A1 stock. I’ve got an extra charging handle around, which I’m gonna use.
My question is this: because both uppers are rifle-length gas tube systems, should I by a totally seperate bolt carrier group for this guy, or should I save my money and just switch and swap out the bolt as necessary? The SPR was made by Monty and Centurion Arms, so there’s no doubting the quality.
My title does not have “industry professional” under it so take my opinion for what it’s worth (not much:D).
You can use the same BCG for both, however it can’t hurt to get an extra one and if your anything like me your probably gonna grab an extra lower at some time anyway since you’ve already got the most expensive part of the gun taken care of.

Two guns is one, and one gun is none.
You should at least get a new bolt. After a while the bolt starts to wear specific to the chamber of the barrel and no two chambers are 100% the same. It’s mainly a performance issue. If you want to ensure that every shot you are making has all the gas pressure possible behind it, then get a new bolt. If not just stick with what you have.
