I dont know the best way to ask this question so I am going to just throw the question out into the forum for debt. What caliber handgun 9mm, .40 or .45 is the best to use with a silencer? From what I understand the .45 is the best because the rounds go the slowest and would achieve the best reduction in sound. Any help on this issue is appreciated and thanks in advance.
You can get 9mm in subsonic loadings too. I’ve thought about going this route myself but I’ll probably go with a 10/22 first.
Of the common centerfire calibers, 9mm is the quietest, with 45 being the loudest. Bore diameter is the primary reason.
Just be aware that they are not always hearing safe to everyone, in this case a SIG 226 + SIG factory threaded bbl + aac evonine.

I would suggest a test fire from someone’s rig similar to what you want.
This is the correct answer. I was disappointed when I first heard a dry .45 can shot next to a dry 9mm can.
The gas has such a large aperature to escape from in the .45, and it makes it harder to contain them efficiently without a HUGE can.
Indeed. .45 is the worst from my research. I’m still puzzled at what role the silenced center fire pistol plays. Rimfire is an obvious fun plinker and pest control set up… But I have no idea what a silenced centerfire is useful for.

In fact, a stripper (quality) from a local club was in the shop last week. She saw my newly rebuilt SBR and just based on her reaction to it (and the fact that she’s a stripper) I feel I could have had a pretty good chance 
That is, better than were I just some drunk creep watching her strip at the club.

An SWR or AAC 9mm can will be among the very quietest. With a 45ACP, you really need to shoot wet to keep it hearing safe.
