Does anyone run a Surefire X300 handgun light on their AR? Pro’s and Con’s?
I did with no problems. Switched to a E2D, for no real reason. The E3D has a bit better throw but the overall light output is about the same.
From what I’ve seen, I’d bet the majority here run them.
Pros: Compact, light weight, durable, reliable, versatile mounting options (12:00 preferred)
Cons: ???
I know of at least 3-4 of us that do on a 12:00 postiton, on a DD RIS rail. RogerinTPA does, lindertw does, I do, and a several others I can’t recall of the top of my head. I have two of them mounted on AR’s, and will add more to the other carbines I have.
I like the X300’s better than the TLR-1’s I used. The switch is different, and I have no light AD’s with it. You have to push in on the switch, versus sliding it around.
I’m selling the TLR-1’s down the road someday.
I am going to build a Surefire light combo with a longer throw LED, just for outdoor work.
And I really like the weight, or lack thereof.
I use one mounted at the front of the bottom rail mounted on my Commando. With the shorter barrel there is much less of a shadow cast by the light at that location. It has worked well for me.
Run one on my SBR and one other carbine. The others have Scoutlights.
I personally feel it is the best weaponlight option available for most urban/LE engagements for the following reasons…
Pro’s:
*Compact size
*Lightweight
*Substantial Output for most urban/LE carbine engagements
*Battery life
*Switching options both work excellent (Standard tailcap or tapeswitch option)
*Works well in the 12 o’clock position (optimal for most situations), due to it’s low profile (Wont obscure shooters field of view or block iron sight) and compact over-all size.
Con’s:
*Output may not be sufficient for target I.D. out past 50yds.
*May require training time & effort to become familiar & proficient with activation. (For shooters used to other weaponlight systems with different position & activation methods)
I guess that is unanimous!
Thanks.
Most people run on top, or on the side?
Twelve O’Clock for me. Now if I can find them there picture shots I took with illumination from the Three, Six, and Nine from an indoor perspective. . .

Best light set up I have run. I use thumbs forward grip on my rifle and this set up is extremely easy to manipulate push on, or toggle for constant on and is truly an ambidextrous set up.
Here’s one mounted on one of my 6920s at the 11 O’clock position, using a MI FBS light mount, since I don’t have the rail space in front. Although 12 O’clock is optimum for shooting around most barriers, while limiting exposure, you have to work with what you got.

My LMT 12 O’clock mount with a TRL-1.

Both are good lights, the edge going to the 300 for being light weight, slimmer profile, brightness and preferred controls. The TRL gets the nod due to cost ($85.00) and the 120 lumen LED.
I run one at the 12 o’clock position on my SBR. Fir keeping things light and bright it’s the way to go.
We just had a lights-out match last night and I ran the X200A on my G19 and X300 on my Colt 6933 attached to the FSB the same way as Roger posted above.
Targets were out to about 25 yards and I had no problem picking them up and/or getting my hits. We had target ID stages, movers, 8" plates and poppers (pistol only).
I really have a thing for weight and for such a compact “package” it suits me perfectly.
I have an X300 on my carbine an love it. Minimal weight and bulk. No problem with activation. Go for it!
I really like the X300 at the 12:00 position on my DDM4. I experimented with the TLR-1 and X300. I prefer the X300 because of its lower profile in this application.
I posted my review with some pictures here:
I purchased an X300 for 6940, placed it 12:00. The front sight appears to cover 25% of the light, but the light still works perfectly. I much prefer it to the 3 or 9 spot.
I tried the Larue QD, but it lifts the light too much. It totally interfered with my ACOG LOS. I really think its too high for 3 or 9 positions as well, however I am keeping it and may try down the road. The design is very sophisticated, it just puts the light too high off the gun IMHO.
I run a x300 and like it a lot. I have one on my carbine and on my duty pistol.

I’ve had my X300 at the 12 o’clock on my SBR since Jan/Feb 2008. PatD and I were I believe some of the first people to do this. We had LMT MRP front sights and cut the large screw off the left side and installed black much smaller McMaster nuts for a lower profile so we could reach the switch on the back of a X200/300. Later in 2008 Daniel Defense started making Lite rails, RISII rails and the Omega X rail which would allow a Surefire X200/X300 to be mounted in front of a FSB. And then later (2009) Daniel Defense made rail mounted fixed front sights (there’s one on this 10" SBR) that are clean and made to have a X300 mounted in front of it.

I did the exact same thing and came to the same conclusions.
