I have been searching for a Surefire weapon light to throw on my AR. I was looking at the surefire website and their prices seem pretty high. When looking in the equipment exchange forum, I have found that $1,000+ weapon lights on Surefire’s website can be had for $200-$300.
Why the big difference in pricing? Should I be wary of non-genuwine products?
Which models are you looking at? Aside from the RAID (do you really need IR capability?) or the legacy fore-end weapon lights, most are much more reasonably priced - certainly not $1000+. The M300 Mini-Scout and X300U are popular models that are available for under $300 from numerous vendors. If you are wary of the EE, there are a number of site sponsors (G&R and SKD leap to mind) that offer Surefire products at a discount over the Surefire site.
I wasn’t considering spending $1,000+ on a weapon light, but I noticed some lights that do cost that much on Surefire’s website can be had in the equipment exchange for $200-$300. I was considering the X300 until I saw some higher end lights much cheaper in the forums.
The X300 is a great choice. I bought my last one new for around $190. If you don’t need a tape switch a G2X or Fury would be a good choice in whatever mount you prefer.
The X300 and M300A are some of the best lights for all round carbine usage. I have both on various AR’s and have been using the X200/300 series for at least 3 years or more.
I also have LED/IR lights as well and they are strictly niche items.
The M962 kit was the $1,000 package I saw for $200-$300. Like I said, I was never looking at spending that much on a weapon light. I was mainly curious on why/how people can sell these lights for so cheap or if they are even genuine Surefire products. I would absolutely love to get the RAID M720V for all of the options it features but I sure as hell don’t need a $800 light. If I could get a genuine one for a good deal, I would prefer that instead of getting an X300 or something similar.
The kit you are referring to is MSRP. In addition it has batteries, IR filters, covers, etc… etc… Most of which is not needed. I have seen plenty of light deal not only here but on eBay. I just picked up a new X300 for 154.00 with free shipping.
Those other lights are heavy and bulky and trust me you will wish you had a smaller lighter light when you actually start shooting courses with it.
I like the X300 and the Scout lights as as well. I have both but prefer the Scouts on my carbines. I just received a new 200 lumen M300B Mini Scout from IWC yesterday. It’s a great light.
