I was talking about the MSRP that Surefire makes and dealers advertise before their own discount. Surefire had the MSRP of 1375 initially. There was talk of a discount in the works and then Surefire lowered the MSRP to 1095. Around here in GA, $999 seems like the best deal when using Silencershop. That $899 that jstalford posted is awesome. Note to self, don’t buy till the product has been out for a few months. :jester:
Any updates on these?
I predict eventually the street price will come down a little but considering these came down in price from the gen1’s, many people are happy to pay $999 right now.
ATF cashed my check on 12/1…sigh…
I agree, and in GA there’s a dealer letting them go for $899 through SS.com.
My stamp finally arrived, and I picked up my RC-2 yesterday (my first suppressor, and 2 more on the way!). I wasn’t able to get to the range till late in the day yesterday, but I had a little time to shoot.
Since this was my first time using a suppressor I can’t compare the mounting system to other suppressors, what I can compare it to is the Surefire Warden. The RC-2 locks up easier than the warden. I don’t have to rotate the locking ring as far as I do with the Warden to stop the suppressor from rotating left and right. When I cinched the RC-2 down it was on solid. The RC-2 didn’t have as much clearance and the Warden when being slid over the brake.
Compared with shooting a 10" sbr unsuppressed, it was amazing how much it brought the sound level down. I’ve read that it’s comparable to shooting .22LR unsuppressed, but I thought the supersonic crack was a lot louder than .22LR. The DB ratings comparing the two may be on par but to me it sounded different. In the vids I have linked I was shooting Federal .223, the stuff you find a Walmart in the 100 round value packs. I didn’t physically (watery or burning eyes, coughing) notice any blowback, but I figured later that might have been because of the ammo. I honestly didn’t even think about blowback until I was on my way home. Since I was shooting outside I could have been in an environment that decreased the effects of blowback, I don’t know.
Tonight I shot it indoors and this time I used Federal 5.56 XM193 and there was blowback when using the 5.56. I couldn’t feel gas hitting me in the face, but I could definitely smell more gas than usual. My eyes never got irritated but the longest strings of shots might have been 8 to ten. What I could feel was gas at the mag well.
POI didn’t shift when shooting at that distance, I’ll have more info on that after this weekend. What was pretty cool was the fact that my groups got tighter when using the suppressor. How does that happen?
I’m happy with my purchase and I can’t wait get it out on the rifle range this weekend!
Here are the vids, I would have made one vid but I don’t know how to combine videos and yes, I realize they suck. They’re short but I figured guys could at least hear what it kind of sounds like. My phone doesn’t really give an authentic sound, but if you listen to how much the unsuppressed mk18 echoes it kind of gives you an idea of the amount of report suppressed in the other vids. I used a 16" Daniel Defense V5, 10.3 Daniel Defense MK18, and a 11.5" build (BCM Barrel).
.
If you want something that shoots and sounds as quiet as a .22 you’ll need to get yourself a 300 Blackout and shoot it with subsonic ammo.
As for the blowback you’ll find that it is very much dependent on the type of charging handle you have.
Here’s my video showing the Warden/Surefire SOCOM556-RC and finally the Silencerco Specwar762 on a 300 Blackout.

What I meant by the .22LR sound was that I think that my RC-2 was about as loud as an unsuppressed .22LR but it was different. More crack less pop, but still relatively loud. I’m really interested in getting a 300 down the road. That will most likely be my next build.
Nice vid, I’ll have to read up on how to post it that way.
Anyone know any dealers who have these in stock? I have a Griffin Recce 5 on the way but the initial transfer is now 5 months in and the dealer is dragging feet.
I am considering the RC2 as a second 5.56 can but they appear to be sold out nationally.
You are getting a story? No form 3 should be “5 months in” ???
If you are dead set on a Surefire can you find a 762-MINI2 in stock? IIRC it is same size as dedicated 5.56.
I just re-checked and the dealer submitted Form-3 January 11. So a hair under four months. They submitted with wrong address info for my local FFL (who did move in the interim) and got notified a few weeks ago that the Form 3 was rejected and they had to resubmit. When I had to resubmit an SBR due to a typo with the Serial the ATF had it sorted in just a few days so I don’t know what the hell the multi week delay is.
I ordered an obsidian from a different dealer a few weeks later in early February and that one arrived at the local dealer last week with no drama.
My understanding is that RC2 has some advantages in the mounting system, comes with an attachment device, and is slightly quieter than the RC so not sure how it stacks up to the suppressor you cited.
It doesn’t come with a muzzle device and it seems to lock up the same as the previous version to me. This is after mounting a brand new 1st gen compared with my dirty 2nd gen. Sorry to hear about your nightmare form 3.
So just get an RC if I can?
The 762-MINI2 is the same as 556-RC2 not sure where you are getting RC: http://www.surefire.com/tactical-equipment/sound-suppressors/socom-2-suppressors.html
I have never seen a 7.62 can as effective as a dedicated 5.56 can, at a minimum you would need to put a different end plate on it and I’m not sure if the Surefire supports that (and if it does there is of course an added cost).
I already have a 7.62 Saker and am looking for a shorter/lighter dedicated can for 5.56 which is what the Recce was for, now I might want a backup.
If you can find one that’s at lower price than the RC2. I haven’t seen any priced lower than the newer version though.
RC is the predecessor to the RC2. There are still some on dealer shelves.
Surefire still has the RC on their site and the MSRP is $300 more… not sure if this means anything but it looks like they’re going to keep both.
Yeah, the response was a delayed response to the earlier fellow asking “what’s an RC”. It looks like Surefire might have both available for some time, but I’m really not sure why since the only drawback of the RC2 appears to be marginally more blow-back. It is also cheaper. Of course you have to be able to find one in stock somewhere to take advantage of that.
Silencer Shop has the 7.62RC2s in stock, just FYI.
