A sleepless night and Grant not having in stock the flashlight I wanted got me to looking around. Bought some stuff:
(Z49) Click-On Lock-out Tailcap
(G3L-BK) G3™ LED
(P91) Lamp/Reflector
And then I found a UNIQ Cree Q5 Drop-In LED at Lighthound. It looks like it gives about 240 lumens!
Some Questions:
What is the difference, besides body material, between a G3 and a 9P when they are in the LED configuration? Or a another way to say it, what is the difference in the Bezel and light.
Can I put a P91 incandescent that puts out 200lumens on a G3 LED flashlight? I see you can put a LED system on a incandescent flashlight, and I assume that it works the other way around. Till I found the Cree LED at 200+ lumens I thought I’d use the G3 LED for general, and then use the P91 for when I want a lot of light.
What is the real difference between a Z49 and a Z59 tail cap? I got the Z49 because it looked shorter.
Are all these lights and bezels shockproff to mount on an AR?
The G3 and 9P will be nearly identical. Earlier on there was an issue using the Nitrolon style head with an LED. The P60L would heat-up and the Nitrolon head would not allow heat to dissipate, the LED would then regulate itself to have longer runtime at the cost of lower output. Now, all G3-LEDs and G2-LEDs ship with metal bezels. If by chance you were to receive one of the earlier revisions of the G2L or G3L, call Tech Support and request to have a metal bezel sent out to you. Another small difference, the aluminum bezel on the G3L has a lexan lens while the bezel on the 9P has a pyrex lens.
You will have no issues running the P91 inside a G3L
The Z49 is actually longer, it has a rubber “shroud” around the tailcap to prevent accidental discharge of the light. Also handy if you have to stand the light up on its tail end.
These do not come standard with shock isolated bezels, however if you are running the LED Lamp assemblies you will have no issues since LEDs are inherently shock resistant. I would not recommend running an incandescent P90 or P91 in a weapon-mount without a shock isolated bezel.
Correct, the Z32 is what you need if you want to run the incandescent P90 or P91 with that G3. If you are using the P60L or any other LED, do not use the Z32. Because of the foam shock-insulating material, it heats up rather fast (same story as before, lower output/longer runtime)
