Anyone use one as a weapon light? I know that’s not the intended purpose, but I’d rather not drop 3 bills on a light.
It will only be mounted on the weapon (ar15) when stored at home, no need to bring it to the range, so it won’t see a lot of firing time. Actually it hopefully won’t ever see any as its for home defense.
I have one on my mid length that’s seen several hundred rounds, still works fine. With that said, look around for a Surefire Scout or similar if you want a HD weapon light. I’d hate for the light to fail when needed most…which is how things tend to go. Actually, if you have a rail or buy the appropriate mount, a Surefire X200 would also be fine.
EDIT: I also hear good things about the Streamlight brand weapon lights.
Both my AR and my 870 wore one for a while, and took the abuse with ease. I’ve since gone to a TLR1s setup on the rifle, but the 870 still wears the G2X Tactical in an elzetta mount.
I have used a surefire G2L since they came out, which is a very similar light, in a VTAC mount. (I sued a G2 before that) I don’t take it on and off the rifle when I go to the range because A) I want to know if it’s gonna keep working as it has through a couple of thousand rounds, and B) It is the index point for my grip.
I run a 6Px, which is the same light with an aluminum body. I felt better about having the aluminum body for impact resistance/breakage prevention when on a weapon that can be dropped, but aside from that, it’s like brand new sitting right next to an A2 FH for 600+ rounds on my 16" middy and then another 250+ on my MK18:
Thanks guys. I ordered a g2x tactical from bcm for 59 bucks. Only prob is I ordered the vtac mount which apparently it doesn’t fit in. G2’s fit, g2x’s don’t. Such is my luck. Oh well I’m sure I can macgiver the mount.
I have a g2x tactical with Haley Thorntail mount on my BCM middy. Not sure how many rounds I have out through it, but the mount feels very solid and allows a wide range of mounting positions.
I wanted a mount that would allow positioning the light about even with the FSP and the VLTOR scout mount couldn’t get it forward enough.
I have another G2X in a VLTOR mount that was loose. I just put a couple of layers of electrical tape around the tube, then snugged it down, and it seems pretty tight, although I haven’t put any rounds through that rifle.
But, assuming we’re talking about the plastic VTAC mount, it’s made it through a training class, plus several range visits, and is still tight.
I to run the G2X tactical on my BCM Mid Length with a gear sector light mount. It’s very solid and been excellent so far. No issues. I had the VTAC light mount previously and really prefer the GS light mount over the VTAC. With the GS mount I’m able to move the light farther forward on the rail and keep from interfering with my grip unless I need the light.
I have two G2Xs in IWC mounts - one at 11:00 on a Centurion rail using a Thorntail mounted on top right behind the FSB, and the other in one of their MOE mounts. The lights work great, and the mounts are fantastic.
Are there different versions of the thorn tail mount? I see on bcm’s site they have a thorn tail but it says its designed for the scout lights. I can’t find the gear sector in stock except Rainer arms but they don’t take American Express and that is my dedicated Internet purchasing card.
The screw mount. Even tightened down all the way, the G2X slides back and forth. Not sure about other sources, but SKD specifically says the Scout Mount for the Series light won’t work with the G2X. I originally got the mount for a G-series light, but got a good deal on a G2X, plus a couple of layers of electrical tape seems to work. The light/mount probably wont stay on that rifle anyway, so I’m not too worried about it.
G2x came today. I duno what I was expecting but it’s a solid light. I guess I thought it’d feel less substantial because its polymer. Pleasantly surprised though. Probably gonna pick up a couple more for my dad and fiancé
I’ve put around 600-700 rounds through my duty DDM4 with the G2X mounted with a VTAC, no problems what so ever. Light is snug in the mount and I have no roll or it wanting to budge out. Solid setup.
I am going to be buying the EAG Surefire Fury in the upcoming months to switch it out with and put the G2X Tactical on my belt for a backup.
