Surefire sure like’s the 500 lumen and up lights this year, the x300 ultra looks badass but i dont think i need 500 lumens on my glock!
That’s got to be some sort of typo, 500 lumens from an X300? How is that even possible?
It’s the “Ultra” model. 
Anyone know if the x300 ultra is the same size as the x300?

Surefire or not, when you say 500 (MAX) it means just that MAX. What is the standard running brightness? I think if it were a 500 lumen light they would advertize it as such. If they mean 500 lumens for let’s say 30 minute run time, that would be great!
I am in no way knocking Surefire, I just don’t care for the advertising strategy.

Yep, I’m tracking, but let’s say it is 500 lumens for the 10 seconds that brand new cells are in, and it’s 300 for 0:10 to 20:00, then 240 from 20:01 to 35:00.
That would still be a minimum of 70 lumens brighter than their current X300 @ 170 lumens. Which many think is a huge amount of white light inside a small/medium enclosure.
I just emailed surefire about the x300 ultra.
A tech support rep said " the x300 ultra will produce 500 lumens on maximum-output and will be powered by 2 SF123 3v lithium batteries".
And
“the bezel-assembly of the new x300 ultra will be slightly larger than the origional x300. Weve found that this negligibile difference has not affected fit in more accomodating holster (e.g. Safariland or Bladetech), but may present issues in form-fitting holsters.”
I was looking at getting an X400, now I see they have one with a green laser diode…I think I am going to wait for it to come out!!
I know it’s probably a no, but I really hope the x400-IR is available in a Class 1.
The LDI LAS/TAC 2 announcement was a bit underwhelming.
All LED’s are not the same. Newer LED’s are much more efficient and give more lumens for less power. A Cree XM-L will easily output over 500 lumens at around 1500mA power input.
Given that your average CR123A has about 1500mAh of power that gives an approximate 1 hour runtime. Of course, intermittent use, heat sinking, ambient temp, and other factors will affect this.
However, for sure it will be longer than the SF old days high power lamps that only ran for 15-20 minutes. If they use any sort of power management they will easily get more runtime at a lower power as the battery drains.

A larger bezel for an XM-L makes sense since the XM-L is a bit floody and it would need a bigger bezel to give it some extra throw. Not so good news for all my holsters though!
Oh yeah, before the XM-L one company stuck 3 XP-G LED’s inside an X300 to get 1000 lumens for 20 minutes using special IMR rechargeable batteries. Now you could get the same output out of an XM-L or three for less power with a longer runtime.

As I posted in the other SF 2012 thread, I have a C2 Centurion running an XM-L and bored out for 18650 Li-Ion batteries. It flat out kicks ass. 
I really, really hope the X400IR is GTG and affordable.
GTG, YES. Affordable…probably not. Even the standard X400 right now is what, $600?
actually these should be regulated output in that they will maintain brightness until the battery loses a certain amount of power - generally over 80%.
I believe this is one of the new XM-L LEDs, of which I just picked up a 460 Thrunite drop in module for $29 from battery junction.
it is rated at 460 with 2-CR123 but runs at a higher rate with rechargeables. perhaps this is what they mean when they say “maximum”…
