The era of racial gerrymandering to segregate black voters in their own districts has been a long, ugly chapter in American life that vividly illustrates how a remedy for racial injustice can curdle into a racket that produces injustices of its own. One side effect of drawing districts for racial reasons is that it institutionalizes race-conscious politics while isolating racial groups from effective political competition. This yields politicians who get elected by racial appeals and stay in office through scandal and senility unto death.
Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act . . . was designed to enforce the Constitution — not collide with it,” instead, “lower courts have sometimes applied this Court’s §2 precedents in a way that forces States to engage in the very race-based discrimination that the Constitution forbids.”
No more. Quoting a past opinion, the Court emphasized that “distinctions between citizens solely because of their ancestry are by their very nature odious to a free people whose institutions are founded upon the doctrine of equality.”
Hopefully this can be accomplished in enough states in time for the midterms. Texas and Kali offset each other (although I think a closer look at Kali’s recent redistricting should be undertaken). VA got slapped down, so status quo there. There are several other red states that are doing it and hopefully might prevent Demoshits from taking the House this November. Fingers crossed….
Like many “Good Idea’s” they often need an experiation date to go along with them. This, all of this was to make up for percieved injustices in the past, it was never meant to be permenant policy.
I remember in 1979 after having worked a year in construction I applied for an apprenticship for heavy equipment. Now this was in the very early days of affirmative action and before HR became a thing.
“Son I can’t help you, I’m here to hire Women and Minorities and unless your more than half Mexican, there’s nothing I can do for you.”
So, that was the hard truth then and I swallowed it and moved on in Life, well now it is their turn to swallow it,
You are no longer allowed to be over represented. All People regardless of color will have the same value and influence as any other. You are no longer a special and protected racial catagory, welcome to the melting pot.
Tennessee legislature passed a new congressional map. All nine of our districts are now properly divided absent race as the main consideration in accordance with the recent Supreme Court ruling. Some people don’t seem happy about eliminating racial discrimination, including media leftists characterizing the Supreme Court as gutting voting rights. Democrats arguing for the “right” to discriminate based on race? Oh my… who woulda thunk.
Yes, I watched a bit of that, Nothing like a Big Fat Black Girl dancing on a desk with a sign she’s got (facing herself of course) and screaming like a scalded Banshee.that says Call the State Patrol !
Tennessee State Democrat Rep. Antonio Parkinson: “Do not hide behind maps and procedure. Let Memphis secede from the State of Tennessee. And I’m dead serious. Let my people go.”
I am hoping that if this is done in enough states that we can avoid losing the House this November. It’ll be close, but fingers crossed. Texas and Kali essentially cancelled each other out, but several other red states doing it can tip the scale in our favor.
Is it partisan? You betcha. Dems have done it since forever. Don’t care if “two wrongs don’t make a right”, I’ll take it!
A Supervisor in the Military one time told me, “Don’t ever under any circumsatnces break the rules for anybody, it never works out and you’ll get F’ed everytime.” I’ve pretty much tried to live up to that and it has worked.
Empathy for the down trodden is hopelessly misguided, you can’t go back and “Make Things Right.” You can go about the proper process to make correct things, but you aren’t King Sollomon and all you will do is end up where we are now.
Robbing Peter to pay Paul just pisses off Paul when Peters money runs out.
Oh it’s partisan as far as party is concerned, but it is Constitutional because it’s not based on race. Some will say there is a fine line between the two, but I don’t care. SCOTUS knows that gerrymandering is and has been done for eons by both parties, but as long as it was to empower Republicans and weaken Democrats they don’t have a problem with it. Just can’t do it based on race, and I’m comfortable with that.
Only issue with that is many of those districts are no doubt in blue states, and any re-districting ordered by a court as a result of those lawsuits will simply amount to moving blue pieces around.
I really think that the Democrats think it’s 1940’s Chicago or Detroit. The Poor Black Man struggles to get out of the deep South and now when he comes North, because of districiting his voice and vote may not carry equal power as White People.
What People dont see is the Circumstances and Math involved in just how much weight your vote carry’s depending on where you live. If you live in Acorn County Missisippi and the Population is 150, your vote carry’s much more weight than a Man living in a voting district in Downtown Detroit where he is 1 in 200,000. Now did a Black Man from Acorn Mississppi have an understanding of that?.
Some of this is due to a percieved advantage the Democratic Party has by spending Public funds on Charity. Not happy simply giving your money away, they decided to give them “Special” Voting Districts that over empowered their votes Thus making the self perpetuating cycle of Voting for Benefits programs they are so famous for. The tricky part here is that none of these people who happend to be black and living and voting in Detroit ever thought they were getting screwed. They had to be told they were getting “Screwed” by the Democratic Party.
After five decades of this scam some Conservatives woke up and began to force (See Indiana Primaries) Republicans to take action. Only by taking this matter to the Supreme Court could we ever see justice in this matter.
I love this watching Jefferies and Obama howl because they are no longer special snowflakes.
Trump has helped virtue signaling victimhood poverty pimps to expose themselves as nothing more than the power-hungry dividers and haters that they are. It’s among the long list of reasons I voted for Trump.
If you’ll notice the Main Player, Jesse Jackson left Trump alone, never mentioned him, just rode off in to the Sunset. Because is you go after Trump, he is going to hurt you bad, you can’t miss or you are out.
