Suppressor "blowback", or lack thereof.

I’ve read about quite a few people complaining about gas “blowback” when shooting suppressed, but I haven’t had any problems with it.

My set-up is just a substandard Bushmaster M4gery 14.5 perm Phantom with a YHM SS Phantom w/YHM front sight/gas block combo and a BCM Gunfighter mod 4 charging handle. I guess this set-up is conducive to minimal issues. I’m shooting regular 55gr XM193 ammo.

Does anyone else have similar experience with the lack of “blowback”. Should I anticipate problems when I add an SBR upper (11.5) it?

I get more gas/liquid blow back out of suppressed pistols than my rifles. I still experience some gas blow back on my SBRs but nothing I would consider “distracting”.

I only notice it on calm days at the bench…I’m using the pri ch along with the high temp epoxy trick. This is w/ a 12.5 and the ss phantom.

Do you shoot NTCH?

That’s one key question, and also are you shooting a high volume in a short interval?

If you are shooting one round, then waiting 2-5 seconds for the next shot, you’ll likely never notice.

I bet if you strapped your setup to an M16 and did a mag dump, you’d notice.

I don’t notice it on my LWRCi, or KAC guns.

On a friends DDM4 I noticed I got a bit of blowback in my mouth (it was open :() when I shot it with my QDSS-NT4. :[

That is my experience exactly. I run my can on a Bushmaster 14.5" M4 barrel. I shoot NTCH and only notice gas if I take my eye pro off for long range shots.

I’ve read accounts of SBRs with cans offering up even LESS gas to the face. The weird thing is that I get gassed out bad when I put my can on my 20" rifle.

I shoot how I was taught by the Army, NTCH. Maybe I’m a little weird but there isn’t a better feeling than the recoil pushing “oh so gently” against my nose.

I agree. I feel totally weird if I shoot with a combination of gear/stock that pulls my nose back off the CH.

If I shoot with a helmet where the suspension goofs up my cheekweld, I get cranky too.

Since I’m left landed, I get quite a bit of gas blowback into the face from my supressed 10.3".

I do have a Noveske Switchblock and it does help a little bit.

All of mine make my eyes water, while shooting. Barrel length doesn’t seem to matter much. I got a Gas Buster to try out, just havn’t done it yet.

This guy from France shot with us a while back. He was a lefty, and he was suffering hard on the silenced ARs. A lot of nastyness gets kicked out of the ejection port.

Did that this weekend. Shot my 12" SBR with AAC M4-2K and my eyes were stinging and I looked like I was in a coal mine disaster. Ugh.

Run a HK416 (SBR) as a lefty and encounter significant blowback with a can. Have not seriously investigated any methods of mitigating it. Will likely do so in the future.
