Well, this build is still in it’s infancy but with all of this suppressed SBR talk lately, I just couldn’t help myself. As of now I only have the stripped Noveske lower and a MOE+:
My trust will be ready to go on Tuesday and the Form 1 will be on it’s way to the ATF, as well as the lower to Orion Arms for engraving. I’ll finish the lower when I receive it from Orion and await my stamp
Tentative parts list:
Noveske 10.5" Light Shorty w/ Switchblock
SureFire MB556K-SB
SureFire FA556-212
BCM Gunfighter Mod 5 Charging Handle
Troy BUISs
Aimpoint Micro T-1 on Larue LT-660
Magpul MOE+
Magpul Enhanced Trigger Guard
Colt AR-15 Rifle Accessories Kit from Brownells
Geissele SSA-E
BAD-ASS-ST
Norgon Ambi Catch
Gear Sector SPRE-R Sling Mount
Colt Receiver Extension Nut
Vltor A5
Sprinco Green Spring
Magpul ACS
I may give the LMT enhanced carrier a go and see what results I get, although I’m thinking it may not be necessary with the switchblock. I’ve done a lot of research on the forums here and it seems that Grant has experienced good results from it in his builds. Couldn’t hurt to try it!
Seems like the A5 system has been running great with these setups as well. Has anyone had any experience running the heavier Vltor buffers? I’m going to stick with the standard but I was a little curious…
I probably won’t do much unsuppressed shooting with this but I want the ability to in a pinch if need be, that is why I’m going with the switchblock.
I’ll update this thread as the build goes with some pictures and the milestones of the Form 1 approval. Any info or suggestions for this build are welcomed!
Looks like it is going to be a nice build. I did the same thing 2 years ago with a Noveske lower and barrel. It is my favorite gun. You may want to rethink the SSA-E. I have one in my 18" SPR and it is amaing trigger, but may be to light for a self defense SBR if that is what you are using it for. Have you tryed one yet?
I used one in my last build, I have about 900 rounds on it and I like so far. I’ll probably need a few more range sessions with it to decide if it is too light, but no issues yet.
I would have gone with the switchblock but I did not like being limited to a 7" rail. In my opinion, that is its only fault. If Noveske could release a rail specifically designed around the switchblock in various lengths (9" with SB cutout, 12" with SB cutout, etc) it would be the bees knees and all this “small gas port” nonsense would go away.
Im considering the W.A.R. receiver for my suppressed SBR build as it allows me to run any handguard I want. It also seems like a more advantageous design because it allows adjustments to gas flow to be made easily without tools or heatproof gloved once the gun gets hot.
This is actually the first time I’ve seen this receiver. Interesting design and it seems like it works well from what I’ve been able to read online at work here. For this build I may just stick with the Noveske upper because I don’t have the tools to barrel an upper currently
