Anyone ever buy from these guys? I’m slowly, and deliberately, gathering components for a “desire” build. I can’t say that it’s a dream build, as I don’t have a full list of specific parts from specific brands. It’s more so based around preferred attributes, and a few specific must haves.
The main outstanding items include…
• Barrel - The only requirement is that it be 18".
• Trigger - It will be a Geissele. Just not set on which model.
• Upper - As long as it has two holes for takedown pins, I’ll be happy.
This brings me to the point of this post; the BCG. Standard phosphate is all I’ve ever run. Mostly Toolcraft. Never an issue, but I want to do something different with the coating/finish just once. I’ve narrowed it down to either DLC or Nickel Teflon; heavily leaning towards the latter. I came across Superior Rifle Systems today when googling BCGs. Their version appears to use an NP3 Sharps Relia Bolt, but with a different carrier. The carrier also appears to be NiB, not Nickel Teflon. I suppose I’d be okay with that combination, as the bolt is what really matters. The fact that it’s S7 tool steel seems like it would be a small plus over 158 and 9310. The idea behind the Relia Bolt seems interesting, but I’m not sure it’s necessary. Having never had issues with standard BCGs, I feel it’s more so a solution looking for a problem type of scenario. But, again, I’m wanting to do something different.
So, has anyone had specific experience with their BCG? Or, maybe just experience with Superior Rifle Systems in general?
After stumbling across their BCG, I clicked around the rest of their website, and the barrels they offer could fit the bill for my build as well. I almost think that they’re Faxon productions. I’ve actually been considering Faxon, and one of their barrels with a .223 Wylde and 5r rifling sounds intriguing. But, that’s assuming my hunch is right that Superior Rifle Systems sourcing from Faxon. Barrel aside, I’d be interested to hear from anyone who’s had experience with this Company and/or their BCG. They seem to be reputable, and a small veteran run operation; which is nice. If nothing else, any input on the Sharps Relia Bolt would be welcome as well.
Superior used to be an Iowa company that built rifles probably 10 years ago. Then they went to just lowers. I have not heard from them for several years. Do you have a link?

Since your PM box is full Ill just reply in this thread. Ive only tried Ionbond’s black diamond which is also a DLC on a BCM bolt carrier that they used to offer. Not sure now similar the Sharps DLC coating is but I never had a problem with them. I know a number of people using nitrided bolt carriers that also have increased hardness with no wear issues.
Thanks for the follow up on DLC. I’d imagine, like other things, there could be a slight variance between brands. FWIW, when I’ve done some research on the potential of a DLC BCG causing greater wear on an upper, I wasn’t able to find much on it being an issue.
For anyone else, I’d asked in the PM exchange if Vicious had experience with DLC. Basically, because it can be pretty high up on the Rockwell scale, I wondered if there should be any concern over excessive wear on the upper or barrel extension.
Never heard of them. If you are absolutely set on using a coated carrier, I would suggest going with one from a known reputable company. Sionics BCG is all NP3 and is only about 30 bucks more than the one you are looking at.
OK
I found their web site but it does not give a location of their factory/shop. I do not think it’s the same company but I would need further information. I do have a Superior Arms lower that I bought all of 10 years ago and it’s a pretty standard lower. All of the pins lined up and I currently have an Armalite upper on it that works flawlessly. I stopped seeing them at the local guns shows maybe 4 years ago.
