I have reached a point I am ready to put some more money into my build.
This is what I got so far
Sun Devil Lower with rra lpk
Sun Devil Slickside upper with dust cover
Magpul MOE stock with MIAD grip and matching 30 rd clip in foliage green, with tube
Next on list is going to be bolt group and charging handle. I have been looking at the young match group but would like to hear some other opinions/options. I have been doing some reading and the sun devil complete rifles are supposedly 1/2 moa guaranteed from factory. I am trying to build a rifle capable of this, would like to get as good as I can get(need to replace trigger with geissele also). What bolt group is a good one to use and which charging handles are good. I wouldn’t guess much differences in the charging handles.
I am looking ar getting a Lothar barrel or a Hart. 20-24" 1:9 twist either 223 or wylde chamber.
I haven’t really decided on free float tube or rails
Thinking VLTOR low profile block
Larue scope mount
buffer and spring(what weight???)
Any opinions or help on anything I need to complete my project would be greatly appreciated. I need everything except what was listed on top.
First, they are not called “clips”. Clips are what a Garand uses, or stripper clips. The 30R “clip” you have is called a “magazine.” They are technically different.
My big question is why on an MOA gun with 20-24" barrel you would consider using a MOE stock? This is not a put down of the MOE stock. I would think you would want some sort of fixed stock that is rock solid on such a gun, and not a collapsible that will by definition have slop in it and also be a bit light in weight for a front heavy gun
This gun is going to be mostly dual purpose until I build its brother. I want the flexibility the moe has while in the field. I do not know which position I will be shooting from so would like to be a little adjustable. I am going to get a fixed stock for when I am shooting off of a bench. I do not the a2 style but I am going to get one so I can put some weights in it. It will spend most of its time with the moe, but when I want to get down to some business off a bench I want it to do fairly well. But while in the field I am going to have a bipod on it and the weight I don’t think will be far enough forward to really hurt me. The gun should balance alright sitting on a bipod.I know they are called mags, but I was in another conversation while typing and don’t know why I said clip. I also know I will probably will never to be able to shoot 1/2 moa in the field, I just want to have an accurate gun so if I miss I know it is my fault and not wondering if I should change something on the gun.
I know where a couple lowers are. There were several on gunbroker. There isn’t much out there on these receivers, uppers or lowers. I really like it and the fit to the sun devil upper is great. I got the slick side upper, i didn’t need to use the tension screw to eliminate the slop you get on some. It locks down tight when on the lower, this might change when the barrel gets put on it… I am going to get a rock river charge handle. I am also looking at the young bcg to compliment the rest of the parts I have.
Just so you guys have another option. One of our local builders here in AZ is Arizona Armory. He uses AzArmory labeled uppers and lowers that are made by Sun Devil. He could be a good source if your looking.
My AZ Armory lower is fantastic. Mr. Covino is awesome, especially since
I you’re using it for mixed uses, then a 20" 1:8 might make the most sense, with a railed FF tube.
A QD Bipod, some longer range optics, and you’re in business all the way around.
As far as the stock - my suggestion would be an EMOD for now - in stock, fantastic cheekweld, good range of lengths but still very flexible.
If you want to, then the NM BCG should work. PRI or Badger for charging handles (the M84 Gas Buster is what I have, though a forged unit with an improved latch should be fine for using it with glass)
For that effort - you will want to float the barrel - Badger, Hogue, LaRue, DanielDefense… will make it more multipurpose too.
My personal AZA Lower is great: The rest is a UBR/MIAD/PMag/Timney setup, and it’s topped with a MUR/18" barrel/MRF-RX. It pulls 1.25MOA with crappy ammunition.
That does look identical to the set I have. I received my magpul moe stock and miad grip today in foliage. I already installed them. I was starting to get a littler discouraged spending money and not seeing a real big difference. But when the stock and grip got here it got me motivated again. I should have a charge handle coming next week. I have been debating on whether or not to get the young manufacturing bcg, and thinking a shilen barrel.
What free float rails would go good with a 20-24 in barrel, I am using low profile gb.
