Any opinions on them? How to they compare to a Mega billet lower?
very happy with the two i have, never handled a mega lower so i can’t offer an opinion of them one way or another. the sun devil lower has a tensioning screw for the upper if you are inclined to use it.
They are very nice; I have one and would like to have another.
i think the tensioning screw is gay, and gives them an excuse to machine on the loose side. other than that, they’re available in a bunch of colors and are cheap for billet… those are the two strong points
I don’t have a Sun Devil so can’t really comment on them from experience. I do have the new Mega billet lower and it really nice. For the money I pfrefer the mega for two reasons.
- the Mega is 7075 vs the Sun Devils 6061 aluminum.
- The mega come with a built in trigger guard (otherwise I’d spend an additional $20 on a Magpul Enhanced Trigger Guard).
I have five Sun Devil lowers. I purchased them because I got them at a very good price.
The machining on all of them has been excellent. With the uppers I’ve tried there has been no slop and the tension screw is unnecessary.
I too wish they would machine in a trigger guard and drop the tension screw. Honestly, all companies should machine a trigger guard and rid us of the annoying gap. The standard AR trigger guard design is silly.
i like the standard trigger guard… the “winter” guards are fine for thinner gloves, but for the kind of layered winter gloves you need in frozen conditions, its better to just knock the whole thing out of the way.
my 2 cents, anyway.
I don’t think I own a pair of gloves that won’t fit Magpul Enhanced trigger guards. I’ve got some heavy gloves, too. My biggest complaint is the gap.
To each their own, I suppose.
i run battlegrips… no gap. “Gappers” fix the gap too
I’ve got a variety of grips, but most of mine have the Magpul guard or the built-in MIAD guard.
I had an opportunity to buy one this past weekend, but even having it sitting right under my nose didn’t justify spending the $290 the yutz quoted to me.
Particularly since Grant, when he has them, sells them for $170. If the guy had been within +$20 of that, things would’ve been different.
I’d never pay that price for one. I bought five of them and got them for $105 ea. I wouldn’t pay much more than that for them.
I was originally going to get the SD but they had a delay of some kind according my III dealer.
Anyway, changed directions and my dedicated sbr C3 billet (w/ enhanced trigger guard) should be in this week. They appear to be kissing cousins.
