sun burn makes great combat mindset lesson

So I’m on deployment in god-awful okinawa and we had saturday off… so a bunch of us got a truck and went to the beach… cool. no problem.

it was awesome, lots of beer, ocean, and sun, and then more sun… then some more sun.

also i’d like to add at this point that my people hail from ireland and germany, the two palest races known to man…

needless to say i burn very well, very very well.

so i’ve had classes on combat mindset and i’d like to think i practice it fairly often if not all the time… well when you have 2nd degree burns on half of your body… you tend to avoid the casual slap or high-five or head rub. yes it hurts that bad. and the next person to touch me is going to get a high-five to the face… already gotten in two kids and my chiefs face for touching or attempting to touch my leather/beef jerky skin.

so for now i look like mr. krabs and next week i’ll be playing as the lizard man…

wow 2nd degree!

‘typical’ sunburn classifies as 1st degree right?

well my shoulders and neck are in the 2nds

rest of me is 1st degree… according to medical… but then again they prescribe motrin if you break you arm so not sure i can believe them…

Aint that the damn truth!!!

I don’t know how many times I was told to take Mortin and Hydrate. Haha brings me back

When I was in basic at Ft. Benning during the dog days of summer the DS’s used to threaten us that if we got sunburned bad enough we’d get a counseling statement for either destruction/defacing government property and ultimately recycled. That used to scare the shit out of us. Especially me, being pretty much 100% German and in the running for whitest person on the planet.

Go to the banana show, drink some wild turkey. That heals all;)

so i listened to medical  to an excess…

took about 4 500mg ibuprofens… so the pain is subsiding…

and i have aloe on the way still feels like streched leather

 banana show whats that!?!

that, was disgusting…

I know the feeling man! On a side note, my dad still laughs when he tells me from his time in Okinawa, when they would write crap with sunblock on some unsuspecting sleeping/passed out Marine on the beach. So look at the bright side, at least you don’t have “TWAT” across your forehead!:stuck_out_tongue:

Generally 2nd degree sunburn is sun poisining and it sucks ass I had it when I was 10. I had gumball sized blisters covering my entire upper body and my skin turned green, took like 3 weeks to go away. The thought of that hell still makes me wince 21 years later. Lesson learned, pale white kid + no shirt in a boat on an overcast day=bad juju

Deployment…beach…??? I wouldnt necessarily say thats “god awful”. The deployments ive been on have been to beaches too i guess(desert) …but the water is a little further away. Sun burn does suck though, i feel for you.

This is not to Monday morning QB, just to share what’s worked well for me. Bullfrog is your friend http://www.bullfrogsunblock.com/super.html

I’ve worn this stuff during volleyball tournaments, canoe trips - you name it and it doesn’t sweat off. For better protection you’d have to go to Sherwin Williams.

Don’t do it. Mental suffering will ensue.

ROTFLMAO

Where’s that dancing banana icon when you need it?

one thing I learned living in Hawaii most my life is never use pure aloe on sunburn ! use a good moisturizer with it !!!

Aloe alone will dry out the skin making it tighter feeling and more sore

yes it helps heal but use the two together ! sure a google might turn up info ?

also you dont want a greasy moisturizer as that will trap heat in

I had to go to the urban dictionary to finally find the meaning of that one.

and being in OREGON while i was there i also looked up this thing you call
“sunburn”. lol

That sucks bro… sorry to hear.
But kinda like hang overs, you gotta know even though you tell yourself
you will never do that again it won’t take long before your a lobster again.

Doesn’t no not to stay out of the hot sun. Now you know what a Lobster feels like. I’ll be doing some sun bathing Wednesday for an hour or so. Plus no sun block.

The sun is evil! I am joking, but I been there and done that eons ago when I was in Jr. High. Blisters on my back where nearly an inch high. I laid on my belly for a week, and all I remember is how much I hated the Arseno Hall show. My North European red headed butt learned a valuable lesson that summer. Sunblock is your buddy. Limit your exposure however you may and can, and hats are your friend.
