This may be the dumbest question ever asked, but why is the front sling attachment on my Colt 6920 facing sidewards, and the rear sling attachment facing downward? Wouldn’t you want them to face the same direction? I’m thinking about trying to remove the front attachment and turning it 90 degrees.
Downward facing sling attachments are for “parade carry”. Its much more practical to have them on the side so when the rifle is slung across the chest it lays properly.
The military is the one who orders those slings attachments, and the side sling swivel on the barrel is actually because of the M203.
As I’m sure you know the old CAR stocks had the sling on the side. Some douche decided that it was more important for the stock to function for Drill and Ceremony than to lay right during transitions and the change was ordered. In all honesty I don’t find it to make a huge difference, but I did swap mine out for one of the old CAR stocks when I found one in the arms room.

If I had one of those stocks, I’d just remove the metal loop and run para cord through the top loop near the heal of the stock.
Yep I removed mine, extra weight and protrusion for no benefits ![]()
An easy solution is to loosen the lower buttstock screw, then rotate the sling swivel to the side. Retighten screw. Now they match!
Thats what I use.
I ran it through, tied a good knot, trimmed it to length and ran the knot through to the inside .
When its carried, it doesnt move.
Granted, its not on the buttstock, but if it dont break or melt an inch away from the barrel and sharp edges…I wouldnt be worried about it breaking on the stock
Any chance you could provide a picture of this? I’m having a hard time understanding from the written word- I’m very intrigued, though.
Sure thing

Ohh. I was completely confused… thanks, that cleared it up.
No problem buddy.
Its not a “Real” sling mount, but it works…really well.
I have been using that for months now, I started cause I needed a mounting point before ordering one, now I just leave it on there.
Sure could have used these stock w/swivels for all of our dog and pony shows in the 90s. I just pull the swivels out, not sure Ive ever seen one with a sling run through it to be honest.
You don’t need 550 cord to mount it on a stock. Run the sling through the slot, put the slide on and run the end of the sling back through the slot.
Yup.
That’s what I did on my standard M4 sticks and pre-QD SOPMODs.
I’m running Israeli Slings… so the paracord goes on every gun… but yeah… the regular sling can just be weaved throught the stock.
