Stupid people who think all is well in the world of "Hope & Change"

My family & I went out to dinner last night at our nice neighborhood restaurant. A middle aged couple sat down in the booth next to us with their two 6-8 year old kids. I noticed the silence at their table which seemed odd with 2 young kids. I glanced over only to see both parents had their I-Phones on & the whole family was watching that f’ing mind numbing singing competition show. Between the 4 of them, nobody said 2 words to each other the whole time they were there. The parents sipped their wine while the whole family was glued to their TV show.

I couldn’t stop thinking about how screwed these type of people would be if some kind of crisis were to take place. Useless technology has dumbed them to the point where they are drones controlled by the gov’t/media. Just the way it was planned IMO. The more I look around, the more I see what will be helpless victims when there’s the slightest little glitch in the system.

Are people ever going to “Get It”?

Some good points made here.

my brother in law got me into prepping and his line that he would always fall back on went something like this “it doesnt matter what the government did, as long as people are allowed to keep thier gadgets they won’t care”

I thought I was the only person who thought like this.:agree:

SHEEPLE…and they’re the one’s who’ll be pleading for assistance when SHTF. Young kids kept in the dark are the only innocent victims…hopefully their “mad gaming skillz” will come in handy when it comes time to actually grab a weapon and get down to business…but I doubt it…they have not prepared mentally or physically…

Cant stand this! I love being a utilitarian simple person. Those people you described in the resteraunt are rediculous. I am nowhere near as prepped as i would like. But atleast i know how to get the fuck away from tech, kill, clean, skin, and purify water. The full blown sheeple are just jacked if things bottom out. I mean we all are but the minimalist have a fighting chance!

Working in IT I see this a lot. Don’t get me wrong I love my tech gadgets and goodies, but people in the corporate world act like business was never conducted before Windows 7 and the webernets. I guess that’s why I try to make sure my preps are as analog as possible. As a tech I have personally seen how fickle technology can be, you can’t depend on it to always be running. Especially in an emergency. A lot of people, at least where I work, fully expect that their smartphones, and Ipads will be functioning normally post crisis. It is truly sad to see the Idiocracy go into full gear.

I wouldn’t neccessarily judge a book by its cover. I’m plugged into my iPhone listening to music or alternative news (thanks to msm dropping the ball) 80% of the day at work, mainly so I can ignore everybody else and just focus on what I’m doing. Any preppers at work could lump me in as a sheeple, I’m definitely not off the grid or as prepped as I’d like to be but I’m as prepped as my finances allow me to be.

As much as I agree with this topic, it has nothing to do with this sub-forum.

…Agreed…

What are you expecting that family to do, have a nice, jovial conversation about their day? Will that family interaction portray a proper prepper image?

I work in IT and my g/f works in IT. After a day funfilled w/ stress, we both like to unwind; I like to read this forum, she likes to read whatever she likes to read – both on our phones. And we can do this over a comfortable silence during dinner. Or, we’ll just people watch in silence. We’re far from being fully prepared or living off the grid, but I’d like to believe we’re ahead of the game.

(And I’d rather have a well-behaved and quiet family sitting next to me than kids jumping around and screaming and parents yapping about…)

Maybe I’m as dated as a week old computer, but I enjoy interacting with my family. Hearing about my wife’s day & what my kids learned at school is actually interesting to me. Sitting together as a family watching mindless waste of life shows doesn’t enrich anyones lives one bit in regards to what may be coming. I hope you can eat or defend yourself with your Iphone when things go sideways.

Agreed that this should move to the GD.

And agreed with the OP. Sometimes I people watch when my girlfriend drags me to the mall with her. It’s not pretty.

IMO, It’s domestication. Isn’t it? A tiger born into captivity at the zoo and given its food and shelter loses most of its essence, its nature.

It appears that men react similarly doesn’t it? So accustomed to foraging into the meat isle, the frozen foods isle, all while checking their Sports Center app, that if those things were to vanish for more than a couple weeks . . . the zoo keepers better run

This whole mindset we’re discussing is exactly what “big brother” put into place over many many years.

We’re at a point now that if technology and frozen food sections were taken away, 95% of the American population would be willing to give up ALL of their rights for a meal and a cell phone signal. When that happens its game over. We’d basically be begging the gov’t to take more power over us and they would oblige.

Jules Verne touched on this subject matter in the Time Machine as did Ray Bradbury in his epic Fahrenheit 451. The more people get “wired” the more they become detached from reality. Common place amongst this herd is also apathy.

"Bread and circuses. . . "

You dont by chance write for Guns Magazine do you? One of their writers had an article this month talking about the bread and circuses deal.

Mhmm…

Negative. I’m just well read.

“It is scarcely possible that the eyes of contemporaries should discover in the public felicity the latent causes of decay and corruption. This long peace, and the uniform government of the Romans, introduced a slow and secret poison into the vitals of the empire. The minds of men were gradually reduced to the same level, the fire of genius was extinguished, and even the military spirit evaporated.’ Now that no one buys our votes, the public has long since cast off its cares; the people that once bestowed commands, consulships, legions and all else, now meddles no more and longs eagerly for just two things. . . .Bread and Games!”

- Decimus Iunius Iuvenalis, Roman poet

I recently shut off cable tv in my house, its a waste of money plain and simple. Its pure shit, either advertising or more mind numbing media slanted horse puckey, and I’m more than glad to spend that $80+ a month on ammo or supplies.

I’ve become so cynical over the last few years I honestly cannot sit and watch tv, or sit and listen to dumb people carrying on in a waiting room about some false, self-made drama…

there are men dying right now all over the globe for this country, there are people starving, children dying of AIDS, natural disasters, impending catastrophes… things that actually hold some value of inherent drama… this bullshit today about he-said-she-said, look who’s dating now fucking trash literally makes me puke… pardon my language.

I was waiting for a flight some number of years ago at Norfolk Airport back to Jax and there was a news alert that interrupted the drivel they were playing, it said there was an airliner crash in South America and the death toll was in the 100’s, meaning literally thousands of peoples lives were forever changed at that point in time, and then suddenly they interrupted again for another news alert… Madonna was hospitalized with the flu… fml

I just can’t deal with it, I either get up and leave the room, or ask them politely to stfu.

Fashion shows by far are the absolute devil… hey lets make a fuss because you wore a shirt that doesn’t match your shoes, or your handbag wasn’t made in Italy… nothing can make my penis go soft faster than meeting an incredibly attractive woman completely absorbed into fashion shows like “say yes to the dress” or “what not to wear”… the one true thing in life that serves absolutely no purpose but to cast judgement on others and dumb down society… completely form over function

I honestly have no idea how you guys returning from deployments can even handle it… I’ve had more than a few friends who had a very difficult time readjusting to the b/s day-to-day back here

Call me misanthropic but my generation (born in the 80’s) and beyond is drastically fubar’d… and we have the medium by which we are conferring with right now to blame for it…

I honestly think the biggest regret I have about my childhood is being allowed to have my own tv… with almost every pipehitter you read about… they were out and about in the woods hunting and hiking as children, not watching tv and playing video games…

but hey… when the shtf for the sheeple… all of their hours of playing COD and watching The Transporter and Fast & Furious movies will come in handy right?

I can agree with you all. I have neices and nephews that own more sophisticated tech then I do, and I am only 28 so I grew up with technology. I am one of those guys that really wants my cell phone to be just that, a phone. I cannot believe it when I see a 4 yr old running around with an i-phone, but I have seen it.

I work in a garage and we have an oil pit were we do oil changes. I cannot believe how many people have almost drove their cars into the oil pit because they were so glued to their cell phones that they were niether watching nor listening to us trying to guide them over the pit.

When tv went digital, it went dark for me because I did not bother buying a convertor box. I just recently got cable because they were running a good deal and I am about ready to shut it off again. 95% of it is pure crap, the other 5% is mostly crap that just distracts me and causes me to be lazy.
