I’ve always followed the chart when buying an AR. Although I didn’t get any of the top 5 (Reason is more on cash flow and since im not in the continental U.S. and it’s hard to get stuffs)
Im studying on an SPR build.
How is the Larue complete uppers. LT011
18in LW50 Barrel Wylde 5.56 Chamber?
13.2 Larue Free float Rail.
When you say Wylde 5.56 chamber, it’s not milspec right? So we don’t want that? it’s not in the chart.
I might shoot 5.56 m193 ammo to break it in. But once it’s broken in. Probably black hills if I can get some and some hand loads.
Educate me guys. Criticisms are welcome… as well as suggestions.
Krieger , Shillen, Lothar barrels are just way out of my league.
This will be a plinkin gun. Im no LEO or Military. Just a gun nut.
The wylde chamber will shoot 5.56 NATO ammo with no problems, I shoot XM193 thru my LaRue upper all the time. This wylde chamber is supposed to be a little more accurate than the standard 5.56 chamber.
These uppers are very nice and EXTREMELY accurate, but not a gun I would want to run thousands and thousands of rounds thru.
ETA: “The chart” is a good guideline, but don’t follow it like the bible, it can be misleading especially in your case since you’re considering an SPR, not a service type rifle.
If the LaRue upper is in “your league” then so is a Lothar barrel. That’s what Mark puts in his complete uppers. It should be an accurate and reliable upper, but will be heavier than your standard 16" “M4” type upper.
My buddy just got a 16" Larue Stealth upper. No break in and it shoots honest, 1" groups at 100 yards with XM-193 55 gr. ball. It is worth every penny and the beast deal on the market for a precision 5.56mm upper.
I’ve been exceedingly happy with my LT Stealth in both CQ and precision roles. With best ammo, it is typically sub-MOA. I haven’t found ammo it won’t run yet. It has a few thousand rounds on it now.
A good friend of mine has the LaRue SPR upper and it has been great. He has the the Wylde chamber and has been able to easily turn out sub 0.5MOA groups. I have the same thing in the Daniel Defense SPR upper, same Lothar Walther barrel, just a different contour and obviously the Daniel Defense rail rather than the LaRue.
Both will shoot better than 0.5 MOA all day with decent ammo, and I haven’t had any failures in several hundred rounds of all types of ammo.
I would love to have a DD SPR upper. but I don’t think they’re selling it anymore.
Building would be nice… buy upper here, buy barrel there and buy rail somewhere else…
I hope DD comes up with an SPR. I really love their rails… so light weight.
pardon me… but… why do you have to sell your rifle?
I like that setup… 18in w/ 13.2 rail.
Id love to have that… but im not in the U.S. im in the Philippines. From this thread to the day I get an SPR… it’ll probably be around a year. Getting those stuffs will really be a lot of hassle. you guys are lucky there.
