Keymod, sub $180?
Looks good, I will be anxious to hear some reviews on these.
id be willing to try it, hopefully I have some extra cash left after finishing my wifes upper. If i do ill pick one up. I wish it was smooth though, rather than having that textured line thoughout.
I want to know if the speced weights are with barrel nut and screws included? For a barrel that is advertised as super lightweight and uses a proprietary barrel nut you would think what was included in the measurement would be clearly stated
It looks like the barrel nut requires timing like the NSR; it is nice they include shims and the wrench to do it.
Is it just me or does the top rail look to be slightly taller than the rail on the upper receiver?
Those fins are interesting. I hope thy don’t interfere with gas blocks. It doesn’t look like the rail will fit over muzzle attachments (suppressor, KX3) because of them, but no biggie, most don’t.
Good price!
I think it just looks bigger because of the rail covers on the rail, but… dat price.
So, the fins conduct heat into the handguard? What is the purpose of this?
In another page on the site they state your barrel must be less than .944" diameter for the rail to fit over top.
As long as the fins don’t touch the barrel, in theory, they will disperse heat and cool faster.
The surface area to volume ratio on them is probably high enough cool the rifle faster and allow it to run cooler longer by adding a greater mass of material to heat in the first place.
Who the heck knows if it actually works.
Did anyone look at the installation pdf? http://www.strikeindustries.com/shop/manual/Mega_Fins_Manual.pdf Gas block is installed after the rail is. Limits you to screw on blocks. If your screws aren’t accessible through the rail holes you have to use their gas block. No pinning and you are ****ed if the block is hard to remove down the road. I can’t imagine getting it apart without destroying the rail! Maybe I missed something. GH
Makes sense if the barrel can’t be more than .944 inch at the rear of the handguard, how would the rail ever slide over a gas block? What a stupid sacrifice, half-baked installation for some gimmicky cooling fins.
I suppose such a decision is fitting of a company that sells fake suppressors…
I think have the name of another company in your hand guard name is a bad decision for them. I kept trying to figure out the name. Mega/Strike = confused. The fins are not obvious, either.
The ad talks about the fins dissipating heat but they will also stiffen the handguard
I will have to check this out @ S.H.O.T.
I’m lost on the fins, I was assuming that’s what they were calling the textured exterior? How would this effect the gas block?
The fins are inside the rail, look at a picture from the front.
See posts 9 and 10. The gas block would have to be mounted after the rail is installed; it’s doable but a major PITA.
not sure why the crying about the gas block, the URX4 is the same procedure. Maybe u can get the fins cut out?
ah… this whole time i never saw the fins inside…
Heres a keymod rail for even less for you cheapos. I know nothing about this company, I just stumbled across them.
As silly as the gas block mounting is, this actually looks to be a pretty decent rail for a good price. I would pick one up for a budget build, or to mount behind a FSB build.
Though, I am still waiting on that two piece, standard barrel nut, Keymod rail of Centurion C4 quality…
