Stress Shoots - TTG, TPG, run and guns, etc

I’ve been doing run n guns, tactical 2 gun matches since 2021 and thoroughly enjoyed them. My kit has evolved over the years as has my carbine and pistol. My AO is tropical heat most of the year but I have traveled to the high desert for several matches. It sure is cold in the morning hours but once that sun comes out…. it all changes. My first belt kit was Alice gear I had laying around since my state guard days. It worked out OK but I soon moved on to more modern stuff. Now I run a surplus British war belt and yoke with a variety of pouches. I really don’t care how it looks, function is what counts.

I like shooting in different equipment divisions when offered. Some matches don’t so it’s whatever you want. I’ve shot in the iron sights div several times, quite fun to make hits past 300 with the irons.

One thing I have noticed in the past 5 years is the prevalence of pistol dots. Since the course designers don’t care what div you shoot in the courses of fire have slowly migrated to pistol stages where an iron sights pistol is at a severe disadvantage. At first I blamed my pistol shooting, one can always improve, but, when comparing course of fire from when I first started to present there is a big difference. Not saying it can’t be done but the precision at distance required now makes the iron sights a huge handicap. Early this year I got my first Glock with an RMR and I haven’t looked back. It’s good to complete a pistol course of fire before timing out !

I have padding in my old Army ucp pant knees. I dyed them to avoid ridicule from other old timers. Fitness really counts although I have shooting buddies who are quite overweight, they seem to make up what they lack in mobility with shooting prowess. Anyway, I’m now 65+, still fit and I recently registered for a match in 2027 as a “super senior” . It probably won’t amount to much.
