I’ll second the MUCH better switch on the TLR-1 compared to the X200/300. As for the lens, if you have a lens thats already carboned, a q-tip with a dab of toothpaste will clean it right up and not hurt it a bit. I think I-N told us that one.
i have a TLR1s mounted on my carbine, no problems at all here.
I’ve been using a TLR1 for over three years and got a TLR1s this past year. They have both worked fine. My only complaint with the 1s is that I wish it would be set to strobe as the default instead of constant on.
If you decide to go with the streamlight let me know I have a site that offers great prices. Hit me up with a message if you would like one.
Streamlight has an excellent warranty too. I’ve sent in some pretty old stinger flash lights for repair and they have always come back to me fixed and free of charge. They are good to go. I’ve had the same experience with Sure Fire.
OR, you can use diluted diswashing detergent. Anything that will put a skim-coat of something clear between the lens and the smut from the end of the gun.
WD-40
Hell, if you have oily skin, you can rub the bridge of your nose and wipe THAT on…
OR, don’t put anything on it and use a pencil eraser to get the smut off.
Lots of different ways to get around that little problem.
I remember that old trick…Got plenty of oil around here…
One resides permanently on my bedside gun, a PT92AF. Couldn’t be happier. ![]()
I use one on my duty pistol (G21sf) and one on my patrol rifle with the pressure switch.
I have a TLR-3 that is a floater for my non-work guns, also great.
I also use 2 other flashlights for work that are all Streamlight. I’ve dealt with their service before and was always taken care of. It was easy to get a real person on the phone.
Highly recommend.
It all depends on what you are mounting it on and how. I like the Streamlight Poly Tac. It is the same size as the Surefire G2 but a little cheaper and alot more durable. For a rifle i have used a DD offset mount with the Poly Tac, it works really well bright, LED, long life on the batteries.
From the description of the battery run time it sounds like the Streamlight edges out the G2 battery life. I’m not sure about the poly being more durable, what info do you have to back that up? My personal experience, not scientific at all, makes me think the opposite. I just do not like the way the poly feels in my hand, it feels cheap. I also think it is made over seas which will give it a huge price advantage.
