To start off i am new to owning an AR so i have not really experienced any jams this is also my 1st rifle. I bought an Armalite new about 5 months ago and have only put around 500 rounds though it in that time. While i was shooting today i had a rather strange jam with my gun. when i get the case out the bullet had been pushed back about half way in the case and the part of the neck of the case was crushed like it got caught up on something while it was being loaded. also the right horizontal lug on the barrel has a nick in it i think from this jam as it was not there when i last cleaned/shot it. If any one can give me some info on why this happened and if the nick on the lug will affect the gun in anyway. Im not sure how to get a picture on here to show the case
I don’t know if this has anything to do with it but I was only shooting a about 50 yards and the gun was horribly inaccurate. i had 2 other people shoot it as well and it was the same with them. I was shooting hornady 55gr
We tend to call such an issue a MALFUNCTION. The malfunction in your case being a “failure to feed”.
Pictures are worth a thousand words. If you have a camera you simply set the setting to Macro (IIRC) which should allow you to make close up shots.
Since you are new to AR’s did you perform an inspection of the weapon ahead of time? If not, I posted something here in the “Sticky” area to help people inspect their weapon.
i did not do a inspection before i shot. this happened about 5 to 10 shots in. i think i had enough oil on the gun i have never under oiled it before but it wasn’t dripping with oil either. Also i have never had a problem with the gun until now. i am having problems uploading pictures to this site. my gun is a Armalite M15 carbine with a nikon monarch 2.5-10x42 in an 1 piece armalite scope mount using the magazine that came with the gun. I have a picture of the round that did was the cause of the malfunction but i am having problems uploading the picture it keeps telling me that the upload failed

there is a picture of it. if you need a better one i can try and get one. also if you need any other picture let me know. the bullet does move freely now because the gun powder came out. the bullet can go in the case but cannot come out. the picture shows it at as far out as it goes. when i pulled it out the bullet was sitting on the gun powder from what it looked like. there is also a good sized step down on the tip of the bullet. also any round that has gone in the chamber since this happened has had deep scratches on it from the ones that we took out after each stoppage of shooting.
The bullet isn’t important. The picture of your AR is what we need. The bullet basically was jammed into the chamber at some point and it pushed the bullet into the casing.
You need to check your upper and look and see if it has M4 feedramps.
Also look at the barrel extension where it meets up with the upper receiver and see if there is a small gap or something that is impeding the rounds movement.
Inspect the chamber area for any obstructions and check your bolt for anything out of the ordinary.
Exactly what kind of ammo were you using? We are here to assist you, but you need to think about the information you are providing. The longer we pull teeth, the longer it will hurt.
The rounds I was shooting are Hornady 223 rem 55gr FMJ Brass Training #80275. I was shooting them out of the magazine that came with the armalite it says on the base plate NHMTG S/42. Do any of these photos help at all?
What types of sights are you using? Have you checked to ensure that the barrel is torqued correctly (not loose).
Are your sights tightened correctly?
I would try some other ammunition and get some other magazines and see what happens. I would also upgrade the buffer (H) because AFAIK Armalite still overgasses their carbines and they probably gave you a carbine buffer.
i am using a nikon monarch on armalites scope mount. I am pretty sure that they are on there right i used an inch pound screwdriver to install the scope to the mount and the base was snugged down as good as i could get it. Also could this be just a magazine problem?
ok thanks. if it happens again using different ammo and magazine should i just leave it alone and not worry about it or should i have someone look at it
While we are often able to successfully get folks squared away in this manor, often it’s advisable to contact the manufacturer for warranty repair. [Armalite contact info.](http://www.armalite.com/Categories.aspx?Id=Contact Us)
I cannot do that because I made the stupid mistake of losing the warranty card before I had the chance to turn it in and I could not find any online registration. But it was a stupid mistake that I could end up paying for in the long run but nothing I can do about it now.
