When storing and/or transporting the upper separate from the lower, do you take steps to prevent the BCG from falling out of the receiver or to keep dust & debris out? If so, what?
I never took any special steps when storing or transporting the uppers seperate from the lowers. I would simply grab a rag/towel and wrap the upper up, thereby preventing anything from getting in or out. Storing and transporting is the same as with a complete rifle, I’d just throw them in a gun case.
I make sure the BCG is locked into place, close the dust cover. This will usually prevent the BCG from sliding out.
Then a cheap plastic grocery bag slipped over the end and twist the loose stuff around the upper receiver. Put it into either my soft or hard case. This also helps keep lube from getting on everything.
These bags can be found anywhere and they are free, so if you punch a hole in it, no worries.
I tote my uppers in these: Allen rifle case
I wish someone made a case closer to the size of an upper. I wish Allen made this case less the magazine pockets and shoulder strap. That is, a very plain, simple, cheap, no frills at all gun case.
When I take classes or go to the range I bring my primary AR and a backup upper. I transport them in a Larue case and then inside of a pelican case. I use socks to go over the back of the upper in order to keep everything in place and then the Velcro straps hold everything together.

I couldn’t get your link to work. Try this: http://blackdogmachinellc.net/upper-bolt-saver-for-ar16-m16-uppers.aspx
Personally, I don’t use anything. I use a duffle bag to transport it if that’s all I’m carrying. If I have more than 1 rifle or upper, I have a large gun case for that.
I like the Black Dog thing, I’m going to get a few.
i believe they make plugs for the back of your upper if you wanna google it, its designed for your reason
They are cheap enough too!
