Since I’ve been working on getting organised as part of my '10 resolution, I’ve noticed that my pile 'o PMAGs is a disgrace.
I’ve currently got a bookshelf in the office devoted to magazine storage, but it’s not the ideal setup. I need some ideas.
How do you guys stash your spares? Where do you stash 'em? What do you stash 'em in?
I like to keep my gear cross loaded and task organized, including rifles. Each of my AR’s is in an eagle river soft case inside a storm case. Each one has a sling, 5 PMags, one combat load of ammo and spare batteries and cleaning kit. The idea is that I could grab the appropriate hard case(s) and just go.
My chest rig is loaded out in a case likewise, with my 1911 and holster. All my additional mags, bullets, gun parts, etc. are stowed in pelican 1660’s.
I know that’s a lot of money in luggage, but it soothes my OCD. I also know most guys would rather have their stuff in a gun safe. I keep my storm cases locked and chained together, but another option might be to pack the kits minus rifle.
anyway, just my .02 on organization, since you asked.
I got a 3-pack of these at Costco but the mag collection has outgrown them.
I like the grab-n-go aspect of it. I’ve got a vest with 6 mags, and a belt rig with 3 mags on it, for dash-and-blast situations.
My issue is what to do with the other colossal mound of mags I’ve got after that. Ideally, I’d like to stick 'em in the garage, in some sort of bucket, of sorts. I would use an ammo can, but I don’t think there’s one big enough that’s different from what I’ve already got. Then again, I don’t have any 40mm cans…
I wouldn’t mind a Pelican case, but that’s some serious scratch.

Loaded: 4 fat SAW GI ammo cans, 25 mags ea.(I think)
Empty: 6 shipping card board boxes, holding 20 mags each (3 for PMAGS, 1 for NHMTGs, 1 for D&H mags, 1 for DSA mags.) in storage closet in man cave.
Mags in a tubberware bin. You can pick em up anywhere…good enough for me.

I’m just like kaltesherz (the cans, not the bunny slippers ;)). The fat 50 ammo cans are about perfect as they will take a pmag standing on end. I have to give credit to rob_s for that one at least as far as my using them…first time I saw it was in a picture he posted and thought what a perfect solution. I put mine in rows going lengthwise but if you only have metal mags which are a touch thinner, from kaltesherz pic it looks like they fit perfect going across.
I keep 28 USGI mags in a Fat .50/SAW can. I’m not sure if it will work with PMags or not. I keep 6 more in my MAV and 6 more in my ALICE gear. (Might as well use some of those mag pouches taking up space!) I keep three loaded in my duty bag–I’m working on an active shooter rig. The rest (training mags, oddballs, 20’s) are in a carboard box in the closet.

I have Plano dry storage boxes. One of the large boxes holds roughly a mix of 50 mags (20 &30 rds).
The largest of the boxes is able to store even the 40 rd AK mags standing up.
kaltesherz, are those your “tactical” slippers? Hillarious!
I use the cabelas ammo boxes (old style). Holds 23 USGI magazines each or 18 PMAG’s (which are a bitch to stack). Ammo not in magazines gets stored on shelves in original packaging.
For “go” ammo I have a Tactical Tailor bag that holds 12 internally and 3 externally. My Eagle case holds 4. Can also grab a ammo box if I needed to.
I keep 6 loaded mags in the SO Tech Falcon ready to go and a couple more empty & loaded mags in a MTM Dry Box…I like it because it stacks nicely with my other MTM boxes which have ammo in them.
I think I’ve found the winner/chicken dinner.

Handgun mags mostly in a small plastic bin, sorted by gun and caliber, in safe arranged in front of hangun they go to. 4 G17 in bug out bag. 2 G17 on chest rig. 4G17 on duty belt.
AR mags are stored:
6 in bug out bag, loaded.
6 in chest rig, loaded.
2 dozen in ammo cans, loaded.
About a dozen in gunsafe, loaded.
About 6 training mags (unloaded) in the large plastic toolbox I use as a range box.
Bulk storage of untested new PMags, or proven older GI in a footlocker.
