Storage buidling, what is safe to store in various weather conditions?

Long story short, I’m considering a purchasing a small storage building(5x10) as long term storage center. This will be placed at my long term bug out location in South Carolina on family land about 40 miles inland from the coast, hot humid summers. But this location is secluded and what I would consider a very low traffic area.

I am considering storing mostly supplies of the construction type(tools, nails, screws, rope) and items for re-building Due to the humidity I will be concentrating on types of materials to account for this. I’d also like to add solar power(for this reason I’m considering a wood building and mounting panels on roof) and generator to run basic power tools, and charge power tool batteries and some lighting.

Now I need some input. It is my thinking that things like canned food, water, fuel, camo spray paint, batteries, ammo will not keep well or be able to handle the heat conditions. Do you think my thoughts are right on this or will some items be ok? What about Mountain House type dried food? Would that be ok in the various weather conditions of hot and cold?

My goal is to visit, stockpile, and perform upkeep on the building ideally once a month, but at a minimum every other month. The main goal of this building is to aid in starting over if things go that far. In the mean time it will serve as a work shop that will allow me to make improvements to the land. Because this land also serves as my hunting land, I’ll be adding a couple ground and tree blinds.

Any other suggestions along the lines of items I should store, or items to build on the land(couple acres, mostly forest). I do want to keep everything as low profile as possible. Thanks for your feedback it is appreciated.

We get very humid and hot summers here. As a rule of thumb I do not store batteries, ammo/firearms/mags, canned food, freeze-dried foods, and OTC meds where there is not air-conditioning.

I cannot comment much on food storage, but I bet you could store guns and ammo if you can keep them in airtight containers or even bury them that way. A few Mosin Nagant rifles with tins of sealed ammo can be ideal in this case, and would make a very cheap option for hunting and defensive rifle if needed.

I’ve read in other survivalist forums that you can store Mosin rifles in sealed PVC pipes and bury them strategically around your land. Even if something happens to them, you are not spending a lot of money for the rifle/ammo. You can buy one Mosin 91/30 and a tin of ammo for under $250; buy a few of those and store them in separate locations in your land. I know its a modest and primitive weapon, but theres a reason these Mosins have lasted for over a century…
