I was a simple IT specialist…I loved every damn minute of it.
Sure I was a pog fobbit with paperpushing and coffee pod experiences.
Don’t care…won’t get a CIB or any other fancy medals.
Just was proud to serve.

I was happy the day the Army gave me all of that cool gear. I was even happier after I retired to put it all in the trash can and wheel it to the curb.
Hope I don’t get in trouble for hijacking the thread, but…
My best friend and I joined together through the buddy program. We were all set to go to MEPs for the first time, and his girlfriend (later ex-wife) didn’t like the idea of his joining the infantry. He switched to supply, and ended up with an airwing. As we talked some time later, he lamented that he never got to really serve. I had to explain to him that I was eternally grateful for the times we had air-on-station or CAS. That wouldn’t have happened if the pilots, mechanics, and ordnance guys didn’t have the stuff they needed to get off the ground. I joked with him sometimes about being a POG; but everyone has a part to play. Can you imagine if they left it up to grunts to do all the support work needed to carry out our mission?
We should all be proud of our service, us POG Fobbits included.
But you have to admit, it just doesn’t sound as cool when I tell stories like:
We had a bunch of extra ground rod sections and supply wouldn’t let us turn them in. The next time we went to the field, we drove 40 feet of ground rod for our generator, screwed the top section off and left.
Or:
I turned around and (name withheld) was carrying 3 TADS night sights up the stairs, our Warrant Officer and I looked at each other and I said “Damn, that guy needs a girlfriend!”
Andy
Ha ha! Andy, what was your MOS?

Your knees and back will appreciate this.
They give the homeless old Woodland and DCU Gortex jackets locally. I have not seen anyone other than folks who smell like smoke and piss in Gortex jackets for the last five years.
Govern yourself accordingly.
Where is that?!?! I need to be homeless there for a while. Those things are expensive!
So you are saying the looks I get when I wear my Gortex have nothing to do with stolen valor. That’s a load off my mind.
I will just stay downwind of folks.
Because Ssgt. Barry Sadler.

Ha…
Off by a letter…
Damn…lol
I was 75B…records management.

I was 14J, air defense artillery. All my training was useless. But did lots of guard duty.
Soooo you got to play with a MANPAD?
I loved the training unit for the Stinger…
That thing was fun…easy pezy…
I wish I could have shot off a real one but the trainer setup was cool.

I trained on it, but my job was the radar and tracking system.
Cool, I was a 14S. Definitely limited the scope of available jobs when my enlistment was up. I use to get a laugh out of getting badgered by the folks about rolling my service into a civy career, like philly international is hiring aircraft killers.
Youre not kidding about guard duty either. Unless you went to JRTC or NTC, OPFOR almost never had air assets so our “mission” was typically a dog and pony show with almost permanent perimeter security via the Avenger systems FLIR.
