A short update on the Stoeger 2000 from my recent post.
I was able to get out this morning for a test shoot. The gun at this point is unfired, completely stripped cleaned and saturated particularly the bolt assembly
with Rem-Oil over night.
Although I did not have the slugs with me today I brought along 20 rounds of Rem. 3 inch. 00 buck and 20 rounds of Fed. 3 inch. 00 Buck with an additional 100 round Wal-Mart pack of Win. 2 3/4 inch. 7 1/2 , 3 dram shells.
When I picked up the shotgun 2 days ago I first looked for the red bead on the barrel, this from what I read indicated was one of the newer versions of this gun. I also inquired when they received them and the gentleman informed me they were all a new shipment. As a matter of fact they had around 10 out, 2 versions blued with wood stocks the most recent a dark walnut in 28" or 26" and the camo both in 28" and 26".
With the plug removed the magazine held 4 rounds. I loaded up the Fed. Buck first and fired all 4 as fast as I could. Cycling and ejection went well and placed the empties about 10 feet to my 4 o’clock. I them proceeded to fire of the last 16 rounds of Fed. all functioned well but as you can assume the recoil was very present.
I checked the choke tube, it was slightly loose but a quick twist with the tool fixed that. Next came the 20 Rem buck. Same as the federal up until the 12th round, I started to get a little bored shooting into the air I spotted a 1/2 liter bottle out about 30 yards away. Put the bead on it and fired. Dead on. I then walked that bottle out to 50 yards with every pull of the trigger it went flying.
Next came the Win. 2 3/4’s. To be honest totally boring. Emptied the gun as fast as I could pull the trigger. One nice thing, after 140 rounds the gun is not even dirty.
I placed a few pictures of a sampling of rounds I fired, along with a showing of primer strikes. Some seem to be having problems with light strikes fortunately
mine was not. Also a picture of the offending bottle which ended up at 62 paced steps after the 2 3/4’s were done with it.
Later I will pattern the gun with some Briley chokes I am going to get with it. I think it will be interesting.
Some folks have had problems with these shotguns, I understand that, I am just giving a very minor test on which may be the newest version and so far it is very pleasing.
I have two Benelli M2’s and not to make anyone agitated but if you close your eyes and fire the Stoeger you really can not tell the difference. Don
