Steel Ops plate - Shot at 25 yards

I had this extra since 2020.

Last week, I leaned it up against a post at the 25 yard berm.

Barrel length: 16”

First three rounds: old IMI 77gr Razorcore

Second three rounds: XM193

No noticeable back face deformation after the 77gr. There is for the XM193, tried to capture in the image.

However…

The XM193 broke free the outer coating. You can see the spall marks across the steel and inner surface of the coating. I can’t say for sure, but it appears that spall was released vertically after the coating was broken loose, which would be a bad day.

Interesting. Never heard of this brand. Looks like it would surely work. XM193 is the nastiest common round against steel.

I’d like to see that steel after being shot with XM193 out of a 20” barrel. I bet that would make a nice little dent.

Pretty much performed as expected. Good on you for sacrificing a plate for “research” though. I prefer ceramic, but there are pros v cons and everything is a compromise on some level.

Injury from spalling is always a possible risk with steel plates. All in all though, it’s still gotta be better than taking those hits straight to the vitals.
