Well? I picked up a Young Manufacturing M-16 BCG (http://www.newriverarms.net/product-info.php?pid110.html) , fully chromed. As you can see from the pic in the link, the gas carrier keys are not staked at all. Do they need to be? Or is there something different with the chrome that allows them to function correctly without staking? Or will it perhaps screw up the chrome job?
They are loctited on. Opinions vary but on this site you will find a very strong preference for proper staking. You will also find a very strong preference for staking in all the manufacturers’ products that are highly thought of.
Staking will not screw up the chrome unless four small indentations in the metal beside the screws fits that definition.
I ordered one as well, not the match though, just to make sure I had something, and if I don’t like it, or get it staked myself, there is always gunbroker.
I MOACK’d one for a guy that bought the performance shop S&W that had a factory chromed one and it didn’t do anything to it that wouldn’t happen with a regular bolt.
Cool. Thanks guys…I’ll either stake it or get it staked. I like the idea of those bolts not loosening no matter how hard the useage gets.
