Is there any chance of the stainless-steel components of this kit damaging other internals in an otherwise “normal” build? I guess I’m asking if this is okay to use without purchasing/upgrading other existing rifle components, or if it is designed for specific use with certain products?
I searched for SS LPK on our forum, and couldn’t find anything really related to my concern… And sorry if this thread belongs more in the General Discussion area, but since it’s a metals question, I figured it would constitute as “technical.”
EDIT* Found another basic kit from MI for same price. I would prefer the stainless components unless you inform me otherwise…
I was worried about the stainless being TOO hard for the other components, honestly. I never thought of stainless as a soft metal…
I had never seen a stainless LPK before, but had never looked. But I’m not paying $100 for a “great” LPK when all that will remain in a couple of weeks is the springs, detents, and mag catch/release… All else is due to be replaced out of that paycheck, lol… A local guy is selling complete new DS LPK (Double Star, for you non KY folk). I’ll probably just get it and upgrade the important components from there…
If you’re not going to be keeping the majority of the parts in the LPK, why not buy piece by piece. www.operationparts.com sells just the springs and pieces you need.
The parts are from DD, so you know you’re getting decent quality.
The only manufacturer that I ever heard of making and marketing a SS LPK was an outfitt called “Timberwolf Tactical”. There were several threads devoted to them and the findings. As I recall, no one thought they were a high quality item. Soft metal, out of round holes, incorrectly drilled, odd shapes were the major problems. The only SS parts were the hammer/trigger pins, trigger, hammer and disco.
Don’t know if it’s a good thing or not. My outlook is they didn’t offer anything more than a quality LPK from any manufacturer except a higher price for questionable upgrades.
Clem - Looking through their site, I think I’d spend the same amount on small parts from them as I will buying a $50 LPK locally…lol. I bookmark’d the site though, they do offer some good products that can be tricky to find sometimes.
Devinsdad - Thanks for this input. I couldn’t find any brand name on the site for this particular LPK, but once I plugged in that name, it became apparent to me that they are probably not worth the money. Not saying that for sure, but I won’t be trying them out this go-round!
Thanks to you all for the help. Look for my Noveske build-up in the pic-threads in about two weeks!
