Stag Arms Model 8 or S&W M&P 15 PS

I’m looking into buying a piston driven AR15, and I’ve narrowed it down between the Stag Arms Model 8, and the S&W M&P 15 PS. Now before we get started, I would like keep this unbiased and free from the DI vs Piston comments. I currently own two DI guns, and It’s time to own a pistion AR.

I’m leaning toward the S&W M&P 15 PS, and It’s Adam Arms designed piston, but I’m not ready to rule out the Stag Arms Model 8. I would like to hear from owner’s of either one of these rifles, or anyone with knowledge of the two.

Tell me why you choose your brand over the other, did you have any problem’s with your brand and does your rifle have carrier tilt?

I personally have new stag m8. I have no problem with it at all. I did get the plus package which make the rifle in the top tier level. Which includes heavy buffer, 1/7 twist barrel, m16 bcg, m4 feed ramp and few other thing.

Can I ask why did u ended up with choice between these two rifles?

If I had to do it again I would get the Adams arms upper. Adams arms piston design is more compatible with lot of handguards or free float rails. Both mp15 and m8 have huge gas block that gets in the way of installing handguards. And Adams arms bcg has much better finishes than the m8.

I paid 1200 for my m8 with plus package. With similar options AA is about the same or less.

Oh and no carrier tilt what so ever.

S & W all the way…can’t go wrong…

Neither but out of the two, get the Smith & Wesson - no contest. I don’t consider S&W to be a top shelf AR brand but they are better than than some other joke companies out there such as Stag. Hell, I’d much rather get the $900 Ruger SR556E over the Stag.

Have you considered any other brands? Are you limited by your budget? I’d get the LMT piston upper seen here:

And the LMT lower from Grant seen here:

Or something to that effect

Price, and I’ve done business with both companies in the past and have been happy with them.

Let me ask you this, in reference to the Adams Arms complete upper, what would I gain by buying this (besides better rail options), as opposed to buying the S&W M&P 15 PS, which is supposedly, the Adams Arms design?

I’m warming up to the idea of the complete Adams Arms upper, especially considering that it comes with M4 feed ramps, 1:7 twist and 5.56 Nato.

Here’s the deal, I’m very particular about matching upper and lower receivers, when it comes to my parts built, project guns. I want the receivers to have a nice, tight fit with no play whatsoever, without the use of an Accu Wedge, and I prefer that the finish match. That being said, can anyone advise me, what brand upper receiver Adams Arms is using, or what brand lower is known to fit this complete upper with no play and perferably, a matching finish?

Have you considered just trying to locate a showgun? Or have you considered a new Sig?

Fit and finish is irrelevant. The play between the upper and lower (unless completely slopped) is also irrelevant. What that tells me is that you are more concerned about looks than performance so the question is why a piston? You aren’t going to benefit from it at all.

Fit and finish mat be irrelevant to you, but It’s not to me. I demand both performance and perfect fit and finish.

How long do you anticipate your rifle’s fit and finish to remain perfect once you start using it as intended?

I used an Adams Arms kit with quality parts like BCM. Forget Stag.

The fit on the m8 is super tight, no play at all and take down pins are almost pain to take off.

I’m promoting AA since it has better finishes and better specs. It’s one of those thing where you wish you had gotten it after you bought it. Also Parts are more readily available on AA over any guns.

You sound like you want a…

Noveske :big_boss:

I’d save a couple hundred and get something just a little better if I were concerned about both quality and fit & finish.

To that end, I’d choose the S&W if those two brands were my only options.

As stated, the OP has two DI rifles and would like to add a piston to his collection. And to say there is no benefit at all…really? None at all? But then again this discussion has been had toooooo many times before.

To the OP…I say if you want a piston, then get it. But I would suggest saving some more funds and get the LMT MRP. Good Luck

Just curious, what brand(s) are your two DI guns…?

.

You just proved my point. I could give a flying squirrel what you want or want to do. But, you are asking for input from others.

If you do research you will discover that those who truly benefit from piston AR’s are those who shoot full auto and those who shoot suppressed (alot).

Since it would seem that you don’t fall into those categories and by your own statements about fit and finish then you are just wasting time and money. You might as well just buy a Ruger.

I don’t think that’s an issue with him. He will more than likely shoot a few rounds a month, clean it and stick it back in the safe.

First of all, I don’t own a safe. Secondly, who are you, the forum Gestapo?

Who are you to tell anyone, anything about me. You don’t know me. Now listen up, heer Reichsfuhrer, all we have heard out of you on these forums, is you going around, talking down to everyone and treating people like crap because you can. No one seems to talk back to you, well I’m talking back to you son.

Now go and ban me from the forums and get it over with.

There’s a reason for that. One which you apparently haven’t grasped. And it has nothing to do with having the power to ban anyone.

I’ve learned more in this forum from keeping my eyes open and my mouth shut than I ever could have imagined, and Iraqgunz is one of the best sources of useful information.
Again, there’s a reason for that.

No actually that’s JSantoro but either way, you’re not off to a good start here. If you want to be popular with a pretty rifle then go to arfcom, I’m sure many will praise you. If you want to get advice on what to own and how to shoot, then listen to the advice and drop the attitude, son.

Ok we’ll let this one go for now gents. A short vacation seemed to be in order. As you were.

Having been a member here since 2009 you would think some would know better. Disagree all you want. Just don’t do it with one hand holding the social finger in the air and the other hand with your thumb in your mouth.
