$820 from buds (make offer a tad cheaper )
Seems like a lot of m4 for the money ? This would be a ? Wtshtf gun (defense ) & Range a few times a year .
I sold my rock river last year it was a tank . This one is light and I will use a 1-4 vortex pst or leopold vx.r
Scope . Pro and cons please . I don’t want to spend a lot on a just in case gun.
What do up guys think ?
What are you asking exactly? Would I want it for if the shit hits the proverbial fan? Bluntly, no. I have a BCM though so… but then again I’ve yet to be impressed by Stag.
CDNN as Colt 6920s for $899. How much is your life worth? I would rather have a rifle that has the “upgrades” standard than worrying about where they are cutting corners. I am pretty certain that the Stag is still lacking compared to the Colt for the extra $70.
The “upgrades” or “plus package” on this gun are/should be STANDARD parts. If a rifle maker makes rifles (lol) to a standard lower than the TDP, that should tell you all. They sell the standard as a “plus”. No thanks. You can get a Proven Colt for just a little more.
So which colt that’s a flat top ready for bolt on for dollars more ?
I’ll bite much rather have a colt .
And with a scope I would need a new gas block ?
As far scopes, from what I am understanding, no you do not need a LP gas block to run a magnified optic. Have run AR with FSBs with Acogs and 1-4X scopes without issue. You may see some minimal shadow at the bottom of the optic, may being the operative word, but it is not going to hinder effectiveness.
One of the main things that dissuaded me from getting a Stag as my first AR was this whole “Plus Package” BS. I noticed that the components of the so called plus were standard features on rifles from manufacturers like DD, BCM and others. I may have been overthinking it, but it didn’t inspire confidence in Stag’s way of doing business.
I would start with an Aero lower, with a quality LPK, ALG ACT trigger, and slap on a BCM uppper and call it a day. As others have mentioned, not a big fan of STAG arms.
If you’re looking for a basic M4gery (i.e., 16" barrel, carbine gas, FSP, 203 cut), in today’s market your search should start and end with a Colt 6920. The only reason I would look anywhere else is if I wanted something that deviated from the M4 profile. Middy gas? Pencil barrel? Factory lo-pro gas block? That’s the point where I start hitting the websites of BCM and Daniel Defense.
I’ll also echo what other folks have said about a scope and the front sight post. I use a 1.25-4 VXR on a rifle with the front sight post, and now I never even notice the FSP through the scope.
To the best of my information after reasonable inquiry and belief, Colt only offers 5.56mm carbines, i.e., they’ll gobble all the cheap .223 you can throw into them, and all the 5.56mm you can throw into them. Trust me, if it was a .223 chamber, people here would raise the roof.
Skip the 6920. Carbine length gas system, crappy trigger, no FF rail, only a 16" barrel (no 14.5") no comp, crappy stock, comes with an FSB to be in your way while shooting, old-school grip…save a few more bucks and do it right.
You’re confusing being anti-6920 with being pro-much better ARs. 6920s are dinosaurs in the AR world. Completely old-school. Basic. Nothing special about them.
I don’t do vanilla, and I will always suggest spending and getting more to those that ask.
AR noobs think any AR is cool, so to them a 6920 is the bees knees because they don’t know any better, and they buy one. Then, once they have one for awhile, and start learning about them, they wish they had bought something better. Therefore, I choose to not start noobs out on the wrong foot, and suggest something that’s better, more modern, nicer, more ergonomic, better shooting, etc., etc.
