Today I have a Savage 12 project for sale. Specs are as follows:
Savage 12 Stainless action: Originally a 223 BVSS I bought used. The bolt body and cocking ramp have been polished to promote smooth cycling. Also the cocking piece sleeve, firing pin, and cocking piece pin have been deburred to ease bolt lift. That brings us to the next feature.
Extended bolt handle with 5/8" bolt knob as well as bolt lift bearing from Kevin Rayhill at Stockade Gun Stocks. These in combination reduce bolt lift immensely, allowing the shooter to run the bolt while prone without disturbing the sight picture like the average Savage. (heh)
PTG precision ground .308 face bolt head to replace factory 223.
Rifle Basix SAV 1 trigger.
SSS precision ground recoil lug and barrel nut. Both stainless.
Atlasworxs bottom metal. This metal works for both center feed and stagger feed savages and their respective bolt spacings.
Criterion small shank stainless 1-8 twist .260 barrel. Threaded at "24 with recessed crown. Zero, I repeat ZERO, rounds fired through this barrel. Break in as you wish. Threaded 5/8-24 with a free oversized knurled thread protector. My 30 cal suppressor locks up very tightly on these threads.
Bell & Carlson Medalist Varmint Tactical stock. This stock has the full aluminum bedding block (slightly relieved for a glass skim of Devcon) as well as a comfortable palm swell, wide forend, and 3 swivel points. The forend has been reshaped to match the width of a Manners T6 forend and slighty rounded in the corners for offhand shooting comfort. The reshaping expose a few small bubbles in the fiberglass exterior layer that will require a skimming before paint. Or if you prefer to give your rifle a Marine-Tex grip zone it should cover them easily.
A few things to note: The action is used, and trigger is used. The rest of the parts such as the bolt handle, bolt head, lift kit, bottom metal, and barrel are new parts, but have obviously been installed and therefore are not in NIB condition.
Also, the stock is not inletted for the bottom metal. It is in the internal magazine configuration and will have to be inlet to receive the bottom metal. The factory internal magazine will not be included as it was a 223 magazine.
