SR25 EM carbine range report and data

It finally stopped raining long enough for me to get out to my land and get some distance shooting in.

SR25 Em Carbine with TA11H-308 with BDC set for M240:

Weight: 9lbs 3.5oz without ACOG. 10lbs 3.8oz with ACOG

First I set out to Chrono the gun and confirm zero at 200m, I had previously zeroed at 100m with a holdover.

Zero was done with Blackhills 175gr

Chrono was done on blackhills 175gr and PVRI 175gr using 9 rounds of each.

Atmospheric data at time of chrono: Temp 66, Pressure 30.00, Humidity 38%.

Black hills 175: Average 2560fps, High: 2622 Low: 2540
PVRI 175: Average 2559fps, High: 2599 Low: 2501

After that I fired at 600m 500m 400m 300m on steel IPSC style target to confirm BDC. All matched up perfect.

I achieved a first round hit at 600m using the BDC, and was able to hit every shot out of 10 fired off the bipod. Pretty happy with those results. I did a variety of positions and some shooting and moving and quick double trap drills, gun worked great through all of it. Recoil isnt bad and its easy to get back on target quickly.

Malfunctions: 0

It had previously not cycled well with PVRI, but for whatever reason it now works fine with it. Guess it just had to get worked in.

Great range report. I’m taking my EMC back out this weekend to see if I’ve sorted some of the failure to feed issues (most likely due to underpowered ammo and not lubing it well enough before the range trip).

I am seriously considering buying one of these, but for 5K I would not expect ANY failure to feed issues? Both of you have had this with the new carbine?? Maybe even KAC has not worked out all of the kinks of the .308 AR platform???

Every gun needs a little adjustment period when it’s new. If it didn’t start running 100% after 500 rounds then I’d worry.

It could have just been a bad box of PVRI when it had the failures, who knows. That PVRI also wasnt running my AR10 at all.

The SR25 now works 100% with any ammo, with both PMAGs and the mag it came with. It runs smooth and perfect.

It runs better than I expected, and has exceeded everything I wanted out of it.

If I could buy again I would.

Is the 9 lbs 6.5 oz with a loaded mag? I ask because they’re advertised as 8.5 lbs empty.

Sorry, I entered it wrong when I first typed it up.

I was told 8.95lbs as the weight when I bought it. So the weight makes sense with what I have added.

Not to bogart RA’s thread. But I ran about 100+ rounds of Remington 150gr Softpoint out of the SR-25 EMC, and it functioned FLAWLESSLY. I’d say a combination of lack of full field strip/cleaning before firing, and some bad ammo caused a butt ton of failure to feeds last time.

This time…oh man. I need to do my AAR.

As an anecdote, there were 2 guys at the range with EMCs as well, one of the guys had the serial number one digit after mine. The shame was these two older gentlemen had purchased the rifles and only intended on using them for bench shooting. It absolutely made me sick to my stomach. This is a rifle that’s meant to be used for run and gun, to really stretch its legs. Get a bolt gun otherwise. So sad. :frowning:

I’ve owned and shot a half dozen AR-pattern .308s, including a LWRCi REPR and LaRue OBR. The thing that really stood out for me on my first range day with the EMC was the recoil, or lack of it. The gas system is so finely tuned that felt recoil is greatly mitigated. It’s kind of hard to describe - more of a gentle push as opposed to the sharp smack that my AR10A4C gives me (Noveske 14.5" N6 barrel). I can imagine that an EMC with a triple tap muzzle device would simply not move when fired…

I had no failures of any kind shooting off a bipod and offhand, using LR20 mags, Hornady TAP 168gr Amax, and DAG 150gr mil surplus.

As RustedAce states, this rifle is flat out amazing.

ETA: chrono MVs (45degF, 35% humidity, 900’ ASL):

Hornady TAP 168gr Amax: 2424fps
DAG 150gr mil surplus: 2518fps

Range report from today.

Rounds shot: 60 BH 175: chrono: 2548fps average
20 Fed 168 chrono: 2527fps average

Shot 20 BH at 400m and 20 BH at 500m both at a 6inch gong.

Hit 20/20 at 400m and 18/20 at 500m

Last 20 BH went into checking BDC at 600m, was an 8in group 5in low, which is where bulletflight said it should be.

But seriously, you think about the 6x Acog for this gun? I know the 6x is a big beast but dont you think it lends itself better than the ta11?

I keep returning to this thread to get my .308 fix until my MRP comes in. Beautiful stick.

Never played with the 6x ones in person, so cant really say.

I am happy with the TA11, I can still hold a great group with it out to 600m, I wouldnt mind more magnification, just wouldnt want to get more magnification for the cost of more weight.

I am trying to keep mine more of a general purpose rifle than a dedicated long range one.

My future plans for the rifle involve getting the suppressor for it when it comes out, then zeroing my thermal scope to it, so if I can only bring one gun, I can bring this and basically do anything at any range at any time.:cool:

I say get the 6x one and let us know how it turns out!:smiley:

As for the diddybag, yup, its been doing range bag duty ever since I got out.
