SR-25 EM Carbine - Larry Vickers

Saw one of these rifles at a local shop (which surprised the hell out of me!) and all I can say is that it’s one extremely beautiful piece of work. Price tag, while above my pay grade, wasn’t as high as I was expecting. And I don’t doubt it’s worth it.

Great pics here! Really looking forward to this episode.

EDIT: I did NOT see one of these locally. I was mistaken. It was an SR-25 EM Rifle. Still awesome though.

Which shop? I’m not in Louisville, but I travel there often for work.

One of the criticisms of the 10-12 year old SR-25s used by a neighboring department, part of our regional team, is that they only run reliably with 168 gr. FED GMM. It is nice to see that the SR-25 battle rifle handles a number of rounds. Budgets suck right now, but I will do everything I can to get a couple of these things. I REALLY think they will be the answer for suburban police sniping equipment.

I sincerely believe the advantages of semi-auto capability are needed in our current environment. Bolt guns are wonderful for single suspect events; not so bueno for Mumbai-type events or stopping a vehicle with miscreants aboard.

Fully concur!

A 16" KAC SR25EM or LaRue OBR with 1-8x optic might well be the perfect rifle for LE sniping. The other option that seems to work well is to drop 12-16" 6.8 mm uppers on an agency’s existing AR15 lowers. Either of the above options should handle 99% of all LE long gun needs.

I wish I had a house I could mortgage for one of these things

I’d look forward to the episode, but I don’t get Sportsman or Outdoor

I am a little shocked to see LAV rocking the combination mustache and goatee, I’ve always seen him clean-shaven before.

What range of mags will these run?

KAC, LaRue .308, POF, DPMS, C Products .308, and Magpul LR20s are all compatible.

IMHO just get some LR20s and be done with it. They work perfectly with my EMC and will allow you to shoot .308 rounds up to 2.820" COAL. I wouldn’t bother with DPMS or C-P mags, the LaRue mags are impossible to get unless you order an OBR, and the KAC mags are a bit on the expensive side.

Shooter’s Supply.

Nice.

That has to be the most “Serious” looking battle rifle since the Garand.

Lack of anti-tilt followers in the LR20s make me sad though.

But at least they’re not 125 bucks like the KAC’s.

Yeah the bead thing threw me off, I was like “Wheres Vickers?”

Where do you watch the videos online? I too do not get that channel. I wish the show was on hulu or something.

Consequentially the non chrome bore, and non dimpled barrel of the M110/M110A1

Kevin,

I am curious. What were your thoughts on the Leupold 1.1x8? General or specific thoughts, any insight in general really.

Nice grouping Kevin.

I am pretty impressed.

Leupold has been very receptive of feedback, not just from little old me, but elements at the tip of the spear.

I don’t consider it a commercial optic. I do expect Leupold to be balls to the wall producing these for government, and both inside and outside of SOF communities, as I expect that the next DMR rifle for the US Army will have this on it…

That looks pretty impressive.

Here I was thinking that his brother had all the camera skills.

How do you like that IR/VIS surefire?

I have been using the Vampire V2 for a few weeks now at work, and really love the thing.

Do you think they’ll eventually get around to letting a few out on the commercial market? Hell, if these are replacing something maybe I should start looking at DRMO sales of all the other optics…

Spooky
