SR-25 EM Carbine History

Scope is the new Leupold CQBSS. Should be available to the civilian market Summer 2010. Price around $3,350 with a Horus reticle and $3,000 without.

As noted its the Leupold 1.1-8x CQBSS
Horus H27 reticle in the model I have.

For those complaining about Leupold, this ain’t your dad’s scope…
They are head and shoulders above the competition in this sight.

Very nice write up and amazing rifle. I would really love to own one of these some day.

Shop about an hour away from me has these in stock…
For some reason there is a burning sensation on my right ass cheek!

A thousand more than a Short-Dot…lmao

I’m buying one. My SR15IWS is getting lonely

How does the MK11 Carbine relate to this history of the SR25 EM?

Is it a similar configuration or something different?

To my knowledge the main diff. is the MK11 Carbine has a 16" Stainless Steel Barrel vs. the SR-25 Carbine has a 16" Chrome-line barrel.

I also think the EM is the more reliable of the two as they have incorporated some new designs in the sr-25 emc’s.

The Mk11 Carbine was offered to an entity who did not wish for the chrome lining on the barrel, like the SR-25 Battle Rifles had.

FYI the Leupold scope price is a lot more than anticipated.

Sounds like Leupold really doesn’t want to make these types of scopes. They screwed the pooch when they had the chance at the original Short-Dot’s design and manufacture and now are pricing stuff in the “that’s just F*E(&*ing stupid” range.

Actually the issue revolves around what the user group that drove the 1.1-8x wants.

At the end of the day the civilian market benifits, even when the items are priced initially way out of the ball park of 99.9% of people.

R&D costs a lot of money, and when you have a lot of time and money into making scopes in limited amounts - the prices of the individual pieces is very high.

The current estimated retail on the Leupold is around $5,750 I beleive, way more than Leupold expected, but it is costing them a lot of money to build right.

I don’t mind spending money on quality equipement, I don’t mind spending more money on glass than then on the stick it goes on, but $5750 is, to put it nicely- refreshing- like a bitch slap to the face.

Kev- you post alludes that the user group added features that increased the price- is that a recent thing or was this known at Shot-show? You mention intro price- are you implying that the original pricing of around $3000 will eventually become reality.

I’m just speaking from a civy shooters perspective. For the military, what is a couple more grand?

$5,750?

While I do understand R&D cost, that price is well outside of what most people will pay. If they want to sell it to 3-Gunners, the main civilian group that would have interest, they won’t. I can’t really see any LE agencies ponying up for that amount either. They have a lot of competition in the Swarovski Z6i, at half the cost.

I still want one.

Perhaps one of the things added to boost the price to close to 6K was the addition of GENIII NV on/off device…then I might consider it at 6k:D:D

They didn’t originally want to sell the M3 either. There was a big to-do back in the old days about the family not wanting to sell a scope ‘fer killin’ people’.

Whew wee baby…

I can understand RD cost on a high quality limited item but hollee sheet.

There are other VERY high quality limited run scopes that don’t cost near that. But when I guess your target purchaser is paying with tax payer dollars you might as well milk it for everything you got. Just like $100 hammers, $150 canvas bags, $50 screwdrivers. Why not a close to six thousand dollar scope?

So being that we’re doing Dynamic Handgun, Costa stopped by Leupold to check out the factory. One of the demo scopes they gave him to put through its paces is the brand new Leupold CQBSS 1.1-8x Short Dot.

Being that we had some downtime during lunch we put it on my SR-25 and gave it a quick try. First impressions basically come down to somewhere between, “holy fuck balls” and “sweet mother of god.”

It’s extremely clear glass, the 1.1 is incredible up close, and the change to 8x doesn’t have that hard rotation like the NF or S&B. We’ll play with it more tomorrow to really see what it can do. The Leupold mount really sucks, so we’re working with what we’ve got. But the scope itself is just jaw droppingly awesome.

Really…really…cool optic.

That is beyond sexy…thanks for those awesome pics as well. That mount looks a lil short bus rider but other than that, the optic looks very neat.

p.s. Ask your mom if I can stay over next weekend so I can try out the new Leupy on the SR-25:D:D

Sure. Just bring punch and pie. :stuck_out_tongue:

And agreed. The mount blows. More feedback tomorrow after we zero it.

Titleist- PM’d you, but put a good word in to Chris to bring the Leupy to the Precision Rifle Class in Pueblo later this month. Chris said he might bring his SASS to the class and that would be sweet.
