Spyderco Assist?

I ran across this knife the other day. I’m just finishing up EMT-B and it looked like a handy tool to have around. Does anyone have any hands on time with it? If you do, what is your opinion?.

It’s a nice solid knife that does what it’s designed to do. The blunted edge is good for cutting off clothes and seatbelts. I found i just used my shears though as i didn’t really want to pull out a knife. You mat also want to look at the benchmade rescue hook…

I don’t have an Assist specifically. I have earlier variants, and other knives that incorporate the features. I like the blunted nose for the slight safety advantage for certain cutting jobs. Spydercos in general are a very serviceable option. I use a bunch of them.

I specifically recommend that you NOT use pocket knives to cut clothing off patients unless there is no other possible option. The risks of cutting a patient accidentally are significant, as will be the value of claims they later file.

For quick cuts to patient clothing, look at the rip-shears. I have a few sets of these for trial, and so far so good. http://www.ripshears.com/RipShears/Home.html
